As for the waterproofing, absolutely no issues there. Proof that green methods of waterproofing can work just as well.
-Eco-friendly materials are used for this shoe, including a PFC-free membrane that protects the wearer against rain or water.
-The outsole is made of fairly deep lugs and an aggressive heel breast for increased traction on varying terrain.
-The TubeTec Eco midsole, which is partly made of recycled materials, has impact-absorbing qualities.
The Hanwag Tarso Low ES is a low-cut hiker for men and women. It has a tongue sewn into the sides, hugging the foot for a snug fit and helping it to stay in place regardless of movement. This shoe also features a traditional lace-up closure for easy adjustment of the fit whenever needed.
Like all other Hanwag footwear, the Tarso Low ES uses a cemented construction system which means that its soles are completely resoleable. This largely contributes to the durability and longevity of the shoes, plus, the sustainability of the product (which the Hanwag brand is mostly focused on).
Since these shoes are meant to be “multi-purpose”, the lugs are fairly deep to create strong traction on varying types of terrain. They are also multidirectional so you can walk on soft soil or muddy grounds with ease. Furthermore, the spaces between the lugs are wide enough to prevent dirt or mud from getting stuck.
This low-top hiker features the TubeTec Eco midsole which is flexible, cushiony and shock-absorbing. It’s made with polyurethane (PU) and contains partly recycled materials. PU is highly durable, thanks to its dense composition. However, this desirable quality comes at the cost of a heavier weight.
What makes the TubeTec Eco unique is the TPU “tube” that protects the softer PU sole inside. This results in a cushiony yet supportive midsole that has the stability required when walking on challenging terrain.
The upper is constructed with suede overlays and synthetic materials all stitched together. For its waterproof lining, they used the Eco-Shell Footwear - another Hanwag-exclusive technology featuring a membrane made of fluorocarbon-free materials. According to Hanwag, this membrane is waterproof and at the same time, breathable.
The shoe also comes with a TPU heel counter for increased support and a solid toe bumper that provides protection against sharp objects and accidental impact.
