A lightweight carbon fiber compound, or the Flex Speed Plate, stretches from the midfoot to the forefoot. Its purpose is to deliver propulsion and energy return during the toe-off for a faster movement.
A low-profile midsole is employed in the Train Ultrafast Flyknit. It places the foot closer to the ground for a more stable underfoot feel. A forefoot outrigger extends past the upper on the lateral side to offer a broader base and enhanced lateral stability.
The midsole unit is made of the lightweight ethylene-vinyl acetate (EVA) foam. It is engineered to provide basic cushioning while being dense enough to assist rapid changes in direction. It is also tough, serving as an outsole in some areas, reducing the overall weight of the shoe.
The renowned Flyknit material makes up the upper unit of the Nike Train Ultrafast Flyknit. It is tightly-woven in the rearfoot section and at the toe box where more structure is needed. Additional support in the ankle is delivered by the mid-cut design of the upper.
In the midfoot section, the innovative Chainlink-shaped Flyknit is utilized. It is interconnected with the Flywire cables to form a responsive containment system for the foot. This design takes cues from a Chinese finger trap mechanism, so it keeps the foot more locked-in. The layer underneath the “chain link” is made of a lightweight, transparent mesh.
The Flywire cables are interconnected with the lacing system. When the laces are pulled, the filaments become taut and provide a more secure and customized fit.
Another popular Nike trainer which employs the Flyknit and the Flywire technologies is the Metcon Flyknit 3 CrossFit shoe.
