A part of the Nike SB collection, this leather-clad low-top model ensures to offer a supportive ride while providing ankle mobility. The Nike SB Gato is solely available in men’s sizing that ranges from 4 to 15. Ladies who fancy a pair should go 1.5 sizes down. For example, if you fall on a size 8 in women’s shoes you should opt for a size 6.5 for this sneaker. It runs true to size.

These low-top soccer-inspired skate sneakers are bathed with monotone colored uppers accented with gum soles boasting of a stylish design obscuring the lines between soccer and skate footwear. This pair’s stitched-panel leather displays a quilt-like design that provides durability and stylish detail. Although style and taste are relative, most consumers agree that sneakers with gum soles make shoes automatically look better.

The SB Gato’s soft leather upper provides durability and is quilted to slow down stretching. The suede toe mudguard provides longevity and extra flick when performing flip tricks. Responsive and absorbent Cushlon foam midsole cushioning offers premium comfort and response without a lot of weight. Finally, gum outsoles give excellent traction and grip on the board.

The Gato model had sort of shape-shifted through the years to conform to different sports’ requirements but if you are truly a sneaker fan knowing the roots of a model should never be overlooked. So which sport exactly did the Gato originate from? From indoor soccer. In 2011, the Swoosh brand debuted the Nike5 Gato Street a small-sided soccer shoe designed for a game with fewer players held in a smaller venue. This OG Gato shoe displayed stitches on the toe area which are inspired by classic soccer shoes.

After a year in 2012, Nike’s Sportswear department overhauled the performance-based Gato and transformed it into a casual sneaker. Dubbed as the Nike Woven Street Gato, this lifestyle kick utilized a more conventional high-grade leather upper and left the soccer-centric sole untouched. The Gato reverted back to its roots in 2013 as Nike released the Lunar Gato II, which was equipped for multi-surface, fast and dynamic games.

In the same year, the Gato also crossed over into Nike’s skateboarding realm. Called the Nike SB Lunar Gato, the brand upped the ante once more by incorporating its Lunarlon technology to cater to the demands of skateboarding. In 2014, this skate model spawned into several colorways and collaborative versions but shortly after it fell out of the limelight and was sort of forgotten.

Four years after in 2018, skate brand Supreme tapped on the Gato silhouette for a collaboration which instantly put the shoe back onto sneaker fans’ radar once again. The Supreme x Nike SB Gato’s ultra limited nature had left some enthusiasts unsatisfied and the Swoosh brand heeded their desires and released the shoe for general release.

Neutral colorways of the Nike SB Gato include white and black but other color options are also available. Consumers can choose from atmosphere grey/white, black/white/gum light brown, white/metallic gold, and black/white/black.

  • Insoles are removable.
  • This shoe features a cupsole construction.
