Nike Air Max 1 History
Tinker Hatfield was initially hired by Nike to work as the company's corporate architect in 1981. Upon Hatfield's request, he started designing footwear using his architectural experiences four years after being taken in by the company.
In the 80s, Nike thought of conceiving a footwear design that would keep up with the stiff competition in the shoe industry. While vibrant hues and bold patterns ruled the market, Nike planned on offering a design that is still remarkable without the usually bright and audacious elements.
During a trip to Paris, Hatfield came up with a design idea of formulating a structural design of Air technology that is visible to everyone. In March 1987, the brand launched the Air Max 1, their first-ever running silhouette with a noticeable Air Max unit found in its midsole.
The Nike Air Max 1
Together with other silhouettes, such as Air Trainer 1, Air Sock, Air Revolution, and Air Safari, the Nike Air Max 1 trainer was part of the Air Pack unveiled on March 26, 1987. The AM1 made such a significant impact as it looked so much different from other familiar kicks presented in the market. This footwear with visible Air technology turned into an instant classic for its unflinching look and incomparable comfort.
As running footwear technologies progress, the Air Max 1 became outdated and turned into a favorite casual sneaker. Seamlessly, Nike Air Max 1 has sufficiently strengthened its status as one of the most popular sneakers of all time.
Because of its popularity and timeless charm, Nike continuously reinvented the AM 1 each year, making it adaptable to every generation. The countless number of materials, collaborations, and colorways of the AM1 for both genders and all ages are made available in the market. The iconic Nike Air Max 1 is an essential piece that genuinely deserves to be in every sneaker collection.
