The Nike Air Max Uptempo 95 is available in men’s sizing. The feet are kept snug by four eyelets on the side for quick lacing while a pull tab at the back gives easy entry and exit.

In terms of style, the Nike Air Max Uptempo brings back the nineties basketball vibe with this lifestyle sneaker that captures an era when dynamic and all-around basketball players have slowly emerged in the hard court. Promising reliable stability and comfort, the Nike Air Max Uptempo 95 gives the wearer the confidence of all-around talents who can muster various positions on the basketball court.

The “Triple-White” colorway seems to be the most popular among the releases but other colorways of the popular basketball sneakers have also surfaced through the years that include the “All-Star” with its soft blue hues, “Duke or University Blue” colorway displaying university colors blue, white, and black, and “Lakers” colorway of purple nubuck with white leather upper and yellow hits.

In terms of design, the Nike Air Max Uptempo 95 design has gone a long way with its visible Air-Sole unit that gives lightweight cushioning and impacts protection. Aside from the visible air unit, the shoes’ notable features also include the foam midsole and rubber outsole for durability and traction.

Specifically made for the likes of Scottie Pippen, Tim Duncan, and Kevin Garnett, the basketball shoes were made for often in-between and versatile players who can muster several positions on the court.

Nike Basketball has been releasing three lines for various types of players. These are the Flight, Force, and Uptempo. The Flight line for the speedier and lighter guards, Force for the centers and forwards, and lastly, Uptempo for that new breed of basketball player were released by Nike. These shoes are for those players whose versatile and all-around character in the court playing for various positions could need a new silhouette to match their needs.

Inspired by the Nike Air Penny, the first Nike Air Uptempo was an affordable model released in 1995 with a visible air cushioning in the heel and a forward design. This model, however, did not get a retro release.

The first Nike hoop shoe to feature the Air Max tech

Unlike the first Nike Air Uptempo, the Nike Air Max Uptempo was also released in 1995. It was the first basketball shoe to have the Nike Air Max 2 technology. The design involved an Air chamber system that is distributed well for great cushioning. Among the most popular releases for this particular model include those created for basketball teams that include then Duke, Uconn, and Michigan all wore this line of shoes.

But no other player gave the Nike Air Max Uptempo the center of the limelight than Scottie Pippen. Wearing the shoe for most of the 1995 to 1996 playing season, the shoe had full-length visible air unit. The same silhouette is now being revived in its original colorway.

Air Max technology was a brainchild of veteran designer Tinker Hatfield who highlighted the Nike Air Sole cushioning technology that first came into the picture in 1978. Displaying the air cushioning technology with an air bubble visible in the back sole was a provocative idea at the time when designers would have wanted it hidden and smaller for fear that it gets punctured or makes the shoe’s transparent bottom look structurally weak.

But since its first release in 1987, sneaker fans have learned to love and appreciate the Air Max silhouette making them highly coveted for their lightweight design and classic appeal that have been popular with collectors around the world.

The Nike Air Max Uptempo 95 has blended all these components in its muscular silhouette. With full leather upper and full-length visible Air-Sole unit, the shoe keeps true to its promise of lightweight cushioning and impact absorption. More than two decades after its first release, the retro version of the Nike Air Max tempo 95 was released to keep and celebrate the basketball shoes’ legacy of championing the new breed of basketball players in the hardcourt.

  • The Nike Air Max Uptempo 95 also features hiking cleat-inspired gilly lacing for easy loop and lacing while pull tabs at the heel and tongue make it easy to go on and off the retro kicks.
  • Celebrities spotted wearing the retro basketball sneaker includes hip-hop artists Soulja Boy and DJ Pauly D.
  • Rudy Gay Jr. of the San Antonio Spurs has also been spotted wearing the shoes on the hard court.
