Nike Air Max 93 History

The Swoosh unveiled the third runner in the Air Max series in 1993. The Nike Air Max 93 shoes showcased more air units than its predecessors; thus providing more heel cushioning. This shoe was first dubbed as the Nike Air Max 270 for its Air Max heel that is exposed in a 270-degree manner.

Hatfield and his team were inspired by the contoured shape of the plastic milk jug handle. They created an advanced blow-molding technology taken a cue from the shape of the jug and created a 270-degree air unit to the heel. This element eventually set the standard of cushioning in the sneakers domain and changed the rules when it came to walking on air.

The AM 93 has no real tongue but only provided with a neoprene sockliner. This model was the first with colored Air unit that eventually set the trend for the rest of the Air Max shoe line. The Air Max 93 made a special appearance by Jerry Seinfeld worn in his sitcom, Seinfeld.

In 2003, the brand retro-ed the Air Max 93 to celebrate its decade-long existence in the market, and since then, various colorways were launched each year, worldwide. The Swoosh released escape-influenced editions and the Air Mowabb edition. The Air Max 93 was also part of the History of Air Max package, and Nike also made this model available on the Nike ID which buyers can customize to their desired look.

In 2018, the brand launched the AM 93 in its original colorway as part of the star-studded Air Max Day. It displays all the classic elements, like white leather and mesh upper with Swoosh detailing. The neoprene collar delivers ankle support and with the critical feature, the 270-degree Max Air unit on the heel.
