Nike Air Vibenna History

In 1964, Phil Knight, a middle distance runner from Portland, Oregon, and Bill Bowerman, Knight’s track and field coach, founded Nike. It was then known as “Blue Ribbons Sports”. Their aim was to produce a shoe with an improved performance for the student runners. It was in 1971 that they created the lightweight training shoe which its outsole features a waffle-type nubs which provide good traction. They introduced the shoe during the U.S. Track & Field Trials in 1972, thus the start of their footwear line.

Nike continued to produce high performance training shoes. But a revolution took place as training shoes got a touch of aerospace engineering when Frank Rudy, an aerospace technology specialist proposed the air-infused cushioning system to Nike. It gave birth to the Nike Air Tailwind which changed the whole footwear industry.

 Tinker Hatfield then pushed the idea of producing a training shoe using the technology to Nike and it almost cost him his job. But he was able to persuade the brand, keep his job, and released the now we know as the Nike Air Max 1 which was the first shoe to showcase the visible Air unit.

In 1982, Nike Released the Nike Air Force 1, the first basketball shoe to feature the innovative cushioning system. It was also then followed by the release of some other Nike silhouettes to also represent the same technology for their midsole such as the Nike Air Max series. Throughout out the years, the Nike Air Technology evolved as new renditions of the Nike Air Max series were released.

From the 180-degree visible Air Sole of the Nike Air Max 180, the visible Air Unit on the sole of the Nike Air Max shoe continued to progress, leading it to the creation of the foamless shoe featured in the Nike Air Max 360.

Aside from the Air Max Series, the brand also released new silhouettes to feature the advanced technology. One of these releases is the Nike Air Vibenna. The brand took inspiration in creating the shoe from the 80’s running classics but with the touch of the advanced technology as the shoe features modern materials used for its construction. The shoe is covered in lightweight materials for the upper as it also features a sleek design. Different color combinations are offered for the shoe, giving a few more choices for the people.
