Nike Air Force 1 Flyknit 2.0: Lighter version of an old school hoop kick
The Nike Air Force 1 Flyknit 2.0 is the lighter and better version of the Nike Air Force 1 sneaker. Revisiting its colorful history, Nike launched the first Air Force iteration as the "Air in the Box" in 1982. It is among the impressive basketball shoe designs of veteran footwear designer Bruce Kilgore, paying tribute to the presidential plane of the United States.
The classic AF1 highlights its Air-sole cushioning that provides a soft cushy feel to its wearers. After more than three decades, Nike streamlined this iconic silhouette by tweaking the all-leather upper with breathable and airy Flyknit, creating an iteration that is 50% lighter than the original version.
What is Nike Flyknit?
This game-changing technology was exclusively developed by Nike and was introduced in 2012. It is yarn fibers knitted together to create a single-piece material, providing a lightweight, glove-like fit. Nike also engineered it to give ample support in strategic areas of the foot. Compared to its competitor, the Adidas Primeknit, the Nike Flyknit is considered more rigid, thus providing better hold.
Nike Air Force 1 Flyknit 2.0's forerunner
The Nike Air Force 1 Flyknit Low was the first AF1 iteration that flashed the Flyknit technology. It was released in 2016 and is considered more breathable and lighter than the original version of AF1. This sneaker is made entirely with Flyknit on its upper except for the Swoosh, tongue, and heel tab that are all made of leather.
While the Nike Air Force 1 Flyknit 2.0 looks virtually identical to its forerunner, Nike crafted the 2.0 version with enhanced durability. Instead of using Flyknit throughout, the Nike AF1 Flyknit 2.0 used leather overlays on the eyelet to boost the overall toughness and style.
