ASICS Novablast 4
91
¡Estupendas!

¿Por qué son las las mejores?

Post-testing in the lab and on foot, we found the ASICS Novablast 4 to be a well-rounded trainer as it ticks the boxes for comfort, stability, and durability. Great for any distance and pace, it’s our ultimate men’s running shoe. Plus, its versatility makes its €160 price tag a steal!

Novablast 4 offers generous cushioning and our stack confirms an above-average height of 39.2/30.2 mm. The platform is made of an ultra-plush foam that emerged 19.1% softer than average.

Despite its thick slab of foam, Novablast 4 feels light and easy on the feet. Our scales verified our experience with a 9.1 oz (259g) figure on the scale. Adding to its effortless feel is the flexible midsole, which emerged 10.5% more bendable than average in our 90-degree test. This maneuverability boosts its comfort and suitability for other activities.

Thankfully, the landing base runs wide which keeps our strides steady and secure. Our caliper confirms its 122.8/94.7 mm platform is similar to dedicated stability shoes.

However, the upper lacks ventilation for tropical weather. With a subpar 3/5 breathability rating, men's feet will require better airflow in hot temperatures.

Pros

The Nike Pegasus 41 took our everyday runs to the next level with its enhanced responsiveness and effortless feel. Our lab tests prove its durable build that can withstand the beating of multiple runs per week, making it our top daily trainer for men.

The Peg maintains a grounded ride that boosts our agility and highlights a more natural running experience. Our precise measurements reveal a 33.6/22.2 mm stack, slightly lower than average but we felt protected enough from ground impact. Testing the shoe in our bend test confirms it’s 32.9% more flexible than average, boosting comfort.

This trainer felt far from dull with its energetic midsole launching us with every stride. We found two Air Zoom units in the shoe, combined with a bouncy ReactX foam that measures a plush 15.8 HA.

The outsole features Nike’s iconic waffle pattern and received a high hardness rating of 89.0 HC vs. the 80.1 HC average. The Peg also fared well in our abrasion test showing slightly less damage than average, proving its resistance to wear.

However, male runners who prefer an exceptionally lightweight shoe should check alternatives. At 9.9 oz (281g), the Peg is 6.0% heavier than average.

Pros

  • Mejoradas para los talonadores
  • Nueva espuma ReactX
  • Transpirabilidad mejorada
  • Parte superior mullida
  • Buena resistencia
  • Varias mejoras en estabilidad
  • Nuevo diseño del rocker y el bisel
  • Rendimiento sólido
  • Cierre fantástico
  • Características sostenibles

Contras

The PUMA Deviate Nitro 3 spiced up our runs with its insanely responsive midsole and one-of-a-kind grip. Despite its speedy nature, it retains the versatility and comfort of a trainer. Even our lab can’t deny it’s the ultimate tempo running shoe for men.

The midsole is the star of the show and our feet instantly recognized its supertrainer status. Our cut-in-half midsole reveals a slightly curved carbon plate in between dual-density foams. Pushing our durometer against the base layer reveals a soft and bouncy 18.0 HA Nitro layer. The top foam is a much more electric Nitro Elite and measures 19.0 HA, springing us off with every landing.

The PUMAGRIP ATR outsole is also designed to handle faster paces with its extraordinary grip. Our durometer reveals a low 72.0 HC reading, which makes it 10.1% softer than average. Our tests show that softer rubber translates to a stronger grip.

Though DN3 is cushioned, it feels highly agile thanks to its streamlined build. Our measurements reveal it’s only 109.3/82.7 mm in the forefoot and heel vs. the 114.0/90.7 mm average. However, its race-oriented fit demands neutral footstrike and proper form. Those in need of more support, especially in the heel, should check other shoes.

Pros

  • Agarre excepcional en todas las superficies
  • Amortiguación fantástica
  • Precio competitivo
  • Placa de carbono muy reactiva
  • Se adaptan bien a todos los ritmos
  • Parte superior de knit mejorada
  • Ideales para entrenamientos de velocidad
  • Excelentes para coger curvas cerradas

Contras

  • Falta de durabilidad de la suela exterior
  • Pequeño aumento de peso
  • La transpirabilidad podría ser mejor

Las mejores zapatillas de running para hombre

Nike Vaporfly 3

¡Buenas!

Our high-effort runs and deep-dive lab tests confirm the Nike Vaporfly 3 isn’t for the faint-hearted. With a midsole so electric, a ride so swift, and an outsole so grippy, this shoe is made for champions. Among men’s running shoes, the Vaporfly 3 is our topmost racer.

It’s hard to ignore how responsive our runs were and our cut-in-half shoe reveals a top-tier combination of the spoon-shaped carbon FlyPlate and the bouncy ZoomX cushioning. Our durometer shows the foam is a plush 16.8 HA, which plays a role in comforting our legs. Meanwhile, the FlyPlate enhances a speedy ride through a faster cadence.

Complementing the quick turnover is the Vaporfly 3’s vapor-like build of 6.7 oz (190g), 28.3% lighter than average. The shoe feels so airy it’s almost as if we were flying through the course. The shoe’s high level of breathability enhances its weightlessness too, rating 5/5 in our smoke test.

As we encountered slippery roads and sharp turns, we pursued with confidence thanks to the outsole’s reliable traction. Our durometer reveals the rubber is only 56.1 HC, 30.0% softer than average. This makes it stickier than standard rubber.

However, we cannot recommend this shoe to those with wide feet because of its race-oriented fit. The shoe will not only feel uncomfortable but unstable too.

Pros

Following trials and lab evaluations, the ASICS Gel Kayano 31 stood out as the best stability running shoe for men. It breaks the traditional rigid feel of stability shoes by delivering a smooth and luxurious ride through its cloudlike cushioning. Support is still at the forefront thanks to its 4D Guidance System and other subtle elements that aid our foot alignment.

We sliced the shoe into half, eager to discover how such a comfortable shoe creates a sense of reassurance. GK 31 includes the 4D Guidance System, a heel bevel, a higher arch, midsole sidewalls, and an expansive base. All these elements gently contribute to the shoe’s stable ride. Our caliper reveals the midsole is 122.1/97.6 mm wide, erasing any chances of losing our footing.

It blows our mind how natural the ride feels. Our bend test verifies GK 31 is easy on the feet, measuring 12.9% more flexible than the average running shoe.

In terms of cushioning, GK 31 went all out to provide bottomless comfort, notably in its 39.3 mm heel. Our durometer shows the foam has a softness rating of 15.6 HA. Combined with the PureGEL in the rear area, each landing feels so light and gentle.

However, all the stability features and cushioning made the ride less agile. Male runners who prefer a more dynamic ride should search further.

Pros

  • Estabilidad excelente
  • Ideales para talonadores
  • Buena transpirabilidad
  • Parte superior cómoda y espaciosa
  • Ideales para ritmos suaves
  • Amortiguación maximalista
  • Un poco más ligeras que la v30
  • Espuma FF Blast+ mullida

Contras

  • Grandes y toscas

True to its moniker, the ASICS Gel Nimbus 26 offers maximum cloudlike cushioning that feels ethereal to the touch. We felt like we could run endlessly in this pair as it ensures pure comfort and secure landings. Among lab-tested men’s running shoes, Gel Nimbus 26 dominates the plush cushioning category.

We knew we had a chunk of foam beneath us during testing yet the exact measurements left us stunned: a whopping 40.4/32.0 mm stack. The forefoot is as tall as most heels we’ve tested in the lab! This amount of cushioning gave us no hint of the ground whatsoever, especially in the rear area where the PureGEL is inserted. But honestly, landing any footstrike on the 18.5 HA foam feels so soft.

Thankfully, Gel Nimbus 26 has subtle stability elements to prevent us from toppling over. The midsole has sidewalls and a wide landing base to enhance our foot alignment. Our caliper confirms a massive 118.4/101.7 mm platform.

From top to bottom, the Gel Nimbus 26 is all about a premium experience. The plush upper stretches and hugs our feet while maintaining impressive ventilation, evidenced by its 4/5 breathability rating.

However, its luxurious comfort makes it a high-end daily trainer at €180. Male runners on a budget can find more affordable cushioned options.

Pros

  • Cómodas hasta decir basta
  • Diseño mejorado de la parte delantera
  • Increíblemente resistentes
  • La mejor suela exterior de la serie
  • Ideales para largas distancias
  • Parte superior de knit fantástica
  • Sorprendentemente estables
  • Un sueño para los talonadores

Contras

Tackling various terrains felt like a breeze in the Nike Zegama 2. It exhibited such a responsive and enjoyable ride while maintaining control underfoot. Our lab confirms it’s a highly resilient shoe, making it our best trail running shoe for men.

Zegama 2’s spirited nature is attributed to its ZoomX cushioning. Its soft 14.5 HA foam felt springy while the rocker delivers silky smooth transitions. The stack felt very balanced, with a low 4.0 mm drop for enhanced control and stability, especially on inclined routes.

What also kept us in the driver’s seat was the world-class Vibram Megagrip outsole, with reliable traction further improved by the 4.0 mm deep lugs. This trail workhorse effectively gripped wet, dry, loose, or compact grounds and kept our strides steady.

The well-balanced upper managed to get above-average scores in our lab tests. It displayed a resilient performance against our Dremel, earning a 4/5 toebox durability. To our surprise, this sturdiness didn’t sacrifice ventilation as Zegama 2 received an impressive 4/5 breathability mark in our lab.

However, with its 10.7 oz (302g) build, this shoe is not for those seeking an exceptionally lightweight and agile experience.

Pros

  • ¡Más espuma ZoomX con rebote!
  • Suela exterior Vibram Megagrip
  • Parte superior espaciosa
  • Resistencia excepcional

Contras

  • Podrían ser más ligeras
  • No son ideales para los talonadores
  • Espacio vertical de la parte delantera limitado
