After spending a few days running in the new Sonic RA, our initial impression is that this is nice work by Salomon. The new Sonic RA is a huge upgrade from the current Sonic shoe and roadrunners should certainly look forward to this new line.
- The Salomon Sonic RA is a road running shoe that is specially designed for those who have neutral foot motion. The outsole utilizes the Wet Traction Contragrip technology. It is primarily focused on providing non-slip traction on muddy and wet surfaces. It also aims to deliver added durability to the platform.
- One notable feature of this shoe is the Vibe technology. It is defined as the combination of Opal, EnergyCell+, and unique assembly that work hand in hand with each other. This system is essential in attenuating vibrations to promote a more responsive ride.
- Featured in the shoe is the Welded Sensifit Technology, the goal of which is to lock the foot securely and provide a more individualized fit.
The Salomon Sonic RA follows the standard measurements when it comes to both the length and width. This shoe is best for those who prefer extended and short-distance road running activities. B - Medium is the available width for the women’s version while D - Medium is for the men’s version.
The Wet Traction Contagrip outsole is integrated into the Salomon Sonic RA. It aims to deliver the right amount of traction on wet surfaces. It also provides additional durability, especially in high abrasion areas. Contagrip is described as the combination of compounds with different levels of densities.
The shoe utilizes the Geometric Decoupling. This technology works with the foot to allow a smoother and more efficient load guidance. This load guidance is then translated into an effortless heel-to-toe transition.
Added durability is offered by the Blown rubber. This compound material can be mixed or expanded with air during the production process. As a result, it produces a lighter and cushier outsole.
Similar to the well known Salomon Speedcross 5, this shoe features in its midsole area the EnergyCell+. This lightweight material provides excellent energy return while maintaining its cushioning and durability.
The Vibe technology is the combination of Opal and EnergyCell+. This feature of the shoe reduces muscle fatigue and possible injuries. They work together to attenuate shock and to ensure a more responsive ride. It provides a long-lasting rebound as well.
Inserted into the midsole is a cushioning compound called Opal. This component of the shoe aims to deliver a more comfortable and softer underfoot feel. This durable and lightweight material is capable of maintaining its performance at different varieties of temperature.
The midsole features an OrthoLite Molded sock liner. Anti-bacterial components are integrated into this foam to promote a healthier and more relaxed foot environment.
Extreme comfort is encouraged by the OrthoLite Impressions. It is made up of 50% bio-oil content that is used as a top layer of a stronger Ortholite base. This material compresses and follows the natural contours of the foot to provide a more customized fit.
The Welded Sensifit technology is used in the Salomon Sonic RA. It is essential in wrapping the foot securely for a more improved fit.
Featured in the Salomon Sonic RA is the Welded Collar Binding. The purpose of this material is to hold and support the ankle and the heel in place. It also aims to maintain the structural integrity of the shoe.
