  • In the third iteration of the Wave Equate, Mizuno remains consistent with providing an everyday running shoe that aims to balance comfort and support—hence the name. The Wave Equate 3 boasts of an overall enhancement from the previous version, offering moderate arch support for overpronators inside a softer and even more versatile shoe than before.
  • The upper presents a new design, which also delivers a cozier sensation and an improved fit that better supports the midfoot. This results in a more comfortable and more secure in-shoe feel.
  • Meanwhile, the sole unit of the Wave Equate 3 introduces the Mizuno Wave concept, a unique feature that gives the shoe the cushioning and responsiveness that runners are looking for. Some of the other technologies of the preceding Wave Equate have remained, such as the U4ic midsole and the X10 outsole.

Like its previous versions, the Mizuno Wave Equate 3 displays a structure that follows the natural shape of the foot and caters to wearers with low to moderate foot volumes. The shoe is built to be true-to-size, so runners could expect a comfortable fit with their usual footwear sizing. The Wave Equate 3 is available in Medium width for both the men’s and women’s versions.

The X10 outsole from Mizuno is known to be the most durable formulation of carbon rubber used in running shoes. The material guarantees sufficient traction especially in the high-wear areas of the Wave Equate 3. Aside from durability, the X10 also ensures flexibility while also promising a long lifespan.

An integrated ventilation system is present in the outsole, which is called the Intercool. This feature efficiently prevents heat and humidity buildup to keep the foot cool and dry.

A combination of the U4ic and U4icX foams serves as the main midsole component of the Mizuno Wave Equate 3. The former is a lightweight, full-length foam that promises high-level comfort, performance, and shock absorption. Meanwhile, the latter aims for stress-free cushioning through consistent responsiveness and smooth transitions. This highly beneficial midsole combo could also be found in another Mizuno running shoe, the Wave Rider 22.

Another physical midsole element of the Wave Equate 3 is the Pebax plate, which is a thermoplastic elastomer that helps the joints during footstrike for less fatigue. The Pebax plate also guarantees impact resistance and energy return.

The Wave Equate 3 also functions through the help of various design concepts, such as the Mizuno Wave technology and the SmoothRide Engineering. First, the Mizuno Wave allows the midsole to maintain a soft yet stable structure. It supplies the perfect amount of cushioning and stability for optimal performance. Coming in the form of a fan-shaped unit, the Mizuno Wave pads the heel during footstrike and easily disperses the shock.

SmoothRide Engineering is a lightweight compound that offers a bouncy feel to the midsole. It enables rapid acceleration and deceleration during the transition phase to promote a smooth ride.

Mizuno makes use of their proprietary AIRmesh upper in the Wave Equate 3. This soft and smooth material is skin-friendly, thus decreasing chances of irritation. The lightweight nature of AIRmesh allows for an efficient airflow process.

The Dynamotion Fit lends the upper of the shoe with stretchable and adaptive qualities. With this feature, the Wave Equate 3 gives a customized fit as it contours to the shape of the foot and produces a natural, second-skin feel. The result is a shoe that moves accordingly with the runner.
