- The Gel Exalt 4 is a running shoe that is made for the roads. It is an update to one of Asics’ prominent stability shoes, the Gel Exalt 3. When it comes to design, the 4th iteration is wholly different from its predecessor as it doesn’t have a bevy of stitched-on overlays; instead, it employs an uncluttered façade consisting of a breathable mesh and printed overlays.
- The midsole unit is made up of a full-length foam for full-bodied support, a shock-attenuating GEL® unit in the rear, a thermoplastic foundation in the midfoot, and a dual-density medial layer that corrects excessive inward rolling of the foot. A proprietary rubber compound protects the platform from wear and tear.
The Asics Gel Exalt 4 was designed to be true to size, though it is worth noting that several consumers claimed that it was half-a-size to a full size smaller than the usual. Trying on this shoe may help in getting a pleasant experience. When it comes to width, the available options are D – Medium for men and B – Medium for women.
The outsole unit of the Asics Gel Exalt 4 utilizes the AHAR® or Asics High Abrasion Rubber, which is a sturdy compound that acts as a shield against the debilitating nature of the surfaces. It is also responsible for providing traction, thereby making the movement as accessible as possible.
The forefoot and heel have flex grooves. These shallow horizontal trenches are meant to make the platform flexible, thus helping the foot to achieve natural progression of the step.
Same as the popular Asics GT 1000 7, the midsole unit of the Asics Gel Exalt 4 features a full-length SpEVA® foam, which is an energy-returning piece that invigorates the running output. It has a sturdy construction to prevent it from breaking down quickly.
The heel part of the midsole has a GEL® cushioning unit. This silicon-based piece is responsible for attenuating impact shock during the foot-strike, giving the foot comfort as it lands on the ground.
DuoMax® is a dual-density foam incorporated into the medial side of the platform. The purpose of this technology is to support the arch and prevent overpronated foot motion.
The Trusstic System® is a thermoplastic piece placed in the midfoot section of the platform. The purpose of this add-on is to support the tendons and muscles of the foot-pad, saving them from strain during movement. Those who have medical conditions of the underfoot such as plantar fasciitis may find this system to be helpful in staving off discomfort.
An Ortholite® sockliner is placed on top of the primary cushioning layout, and it’s meant to add some more support for the foot. It also has antimicrobial and anti-moisture capacities that maintain a clean and healthy in-shoe environment.
Two types of mesh are used on the upper unit of the Asics Gel Exalt 4. While the rear and midfoot employ a close-weave variant for added security, the forefoot utilizes an option that has a noticeably open construction. The visible pores accommodate air into the foot-chamber.
The midfoot has securing panels made of thin synthetic material. These sidewalls are meant to help the rest of the upper and the lacing system in locking the foot in place.
The padded tongue and collar prevent in-shoe wobbling and accidental shoe removals.
