Adidas Tubular Instinct Boost History

Adidas rises above the standard and traditional manner in creating the sole by combining two of its patented technologies in coming up with an ultra chic, sporty model called, the Tubular Instinct Boost. Its silhouette hits the core of modern day sneaker fashion, while its name is a giveaway of the shoe’s central features, specifically the cutting-edge Tubular and Boost technologies. This is a modified variation of the Adidas Tubular Instinct with a usual EVA midsole.

The Tubular concept was originally formulated by Adidas back in the 1980s as a component of a basketball trainer, which captivated the sneaker scene in 1993. However, the blueprint of what could have been the first ever inflatable sneaker was way too futuristic for its time that it had to be parked away for few years.

The Tubular hoops trainer was eventually placed in the Adidas archives until one of the brand’s mastermind design creators, Nic Galway saw its huge potential in terms of market appeal and production possibilities. Thus, he resurrected the Tubular concept.

After half a decade of research, in 2014, Adidas Originals dropped the Tubular Runner. The sole design of this shoe is derived from car tires intended to offer superior cushioning, better grip and traction.

The iconic silhouette of this shoe was formulated with high fashion in mind, which made it extremely popular in the runway as seen in the 2015 Paris Fashion Week’s Autumn/Winter. Eventually the Tubular hierarchy grew aggressively through the birth of several other models, like the catwalk favorite Tubular X, customized runner Mi Tubular, and the trainer-sock combo Tubular Doom.

This tire-inspired series continues to transform with the addition of the Adidas Tubular Instinct in high-top suede and premium textile silhouette during the Summer of 2016. It was succeeded towards the end of that year by the Adidas Tubular Instinct Boost. It was the same period when the Adidas NMD that popularized the Boost tech was making big waves in the market.

The Boost technology in the midsole sets these two tire-inspired sneakers apart. The midsole built with this patented Boost tech had striking visual resemblance with a Styrofoam structure. It is made of foam granules or energy capsules compressed altogether that offer a high-energy return and good amount of cushioning.

The initial drop of the Adidas Tubular Instinct Boost is in Vegetable Tan and Core Black colorways, which both features a micro perforated heel panel for additional ventilation and to complement the fusion of Boost and Tubular technology in the sole.

Adidas Tubular Instinct Boost Style

The Adidas Tubular Instinct Boost is built with a trendy, functional upper that can blend in an office set up and fit into after work parties and gatherings. Its clean-lined silhouette made of purely premium leather can attract lots of attention, especially when paired with tapered skinnies and leggings. A practical go-to high-top during Fall/Winter months.

Fit & Sizing

The Boost feature on the Adidas Tubular Instinct elevates the appealing quality of this high-top lifestyle sneaker as such feature provides full-length cushioning that weartesters are raving about. This sneaker generally runs true to size and available in medium width. The shoe has a standard lacing system which offers customized fit with the use of reflective rope laces. This sneaker is available in men’s sizes from 5 to 13 US.

Notable Features

The Adidas Tubular Instinct Boost draws attention with its undeniably premium leather upper that sits on a dual-technology  midsole. Fused together, the Boost and Tubular technologies in the sole apparently cushion the feet comfortably, which makes it a go-to sneaker. This fashionable and functional sneaker offers support and warmth to the feet for whole day use, especially during colder months.

Additional Info

  • The Adidas Tubular Instinct Boot comes with a removable insole.
  • Adidas tapped BASF, a German company that’s known to the entire world as a leading chemical producer, to create for them a revolutionized Boost cushioning technology.
  • There is a smooth fabric under the insole just like in the Yeezy Boost 750, which reduces direct contact of the feet to the midsole.
  • On the flip side, the rubber outsole is scored in the middle that reveals the Boost tech.
  • The clean, tube-inspired rubber outsole has a unique tread pattern to strengthen the traction against different surface elements.
