The New Balance Fresh Foam Gobi Trail v2

When I found big trail running shoes.

When I say “big” it’s actually because most brands make it like that, not all of them but a good number of them do. When you run into the woods or the mountains you want your feet safe.

Once I tested it, I realized that while it is indeed skinny, the fit is amazing and it gives you a sensation that you are running barefoot.

    Trail & road running

They are actually good enough for trail running and road running and if you are looking for one pair that combines both, this model can make your running easier.

You can’t even notice the difference. Since the sole is not so aggressive like other models that are designed for trail running, the transition from trail to road is still comfortable.

    Lightweight

This model is perfect if you want to reduce the weight you are carrying when you are running,  even more so if you are a long distance runner.

Since I found these shoes to be very light, I was worried they won't work well between all those rocks but to my surprise, they are really strong for all types of terrain that I am used to.

It has a toe protector in the front that really works. I stepped onto countless rocks and roots and my toes are perfect. So it looks fragile but it’s not.

    Fresh

They are not really fresh. In all of the training I have used them, my feet are always kind of warm.

    Grip

I wish it has more grip.

The sole is not so aggressive, the spikes are not as big as other trail shoes and sometimes it feels like you are going to fall down when you are hitting the trail, even more, when you are going downhill. Going uphill is good, that I can’t complain.

    Seamless

This is an exceptional characteristic because it feels like I'm wearing a sock. You feel your feet nice and tight while it is protected from any debris during your runs. Besides, the absence of stitches and creases makes for a comfortable shoe.

    Conclusion

I recommend buying the New Balance Fresh Foam Gobi Trail v2 if you are looking for a shoe that can handle both road and simple trails.

It's good enough for both,  has ample protection, light, stable and is comfortable. Definitely a good buy!

I'm an ultra runner who loves to run freely in the mountains. I've been running for about 12 years now with an average of 45 miles a week on trails. My favorites brands are New Balance, Asics, and Salomon. Currently, I'm trying to develop my own brand - TZCARUN, it’s a combination of Tezcatlipoca, one of the main Aztec gods and of course, running.

Updates to New Balance Fresh Foam Gobi Trail v2

  • The New Balance Fresh Foam Gobi Trail v2 is a trail running shoe that’s designed for those who have neutral pronation. It doesn’t have a lot of changes to make it very distinct from the first version in the series, but it’s still crafted to be efficient on the off-road paths.
  • The upper now uses engineered mesh to provide a soft and sock-like coverage. This material is similar to woven cloth, employing a lightweight and flexible build that conforms to the shape and motion of the wearer’s foot.

New Balance Fresh Foam Gobi Trail v2 size and fit

Standard measurements were used in the making of the New Balance Fresh Foam Gobi Trail v2. The company has made sure to accommodate the regular preferences of runners when it comes to size. The available widths for the women’s version are B – Medium and D – Wide. For the men’s iteration, the options are D – Medium and 2E – Wide. The curved shape of the platform accommodates the natural curvature of the human foot.

Outsole

The New Balance Fresh Foam Gobi Trail v2 makes use of the AT TREAD Hydrohesion Outsole which is made up of a sticky rubber compound. Its adhesive nature allows the sole unit to hold onto the surfaces with ease. It’s even optimized to tackle wet ground.

Moderately aggressive gripping lugs with flat edges provide extra grip on terrains that are more uneven. The flatness of the tips permits movement on flatter topography.

Midsole

The Fresh Foam full-length midsole offers reactive cushioning for the entire underside of the foot. It’s designed to be springy and agreeable. Its sides have geometric shapes and small grooves to help with springiness and flexibility.

Additional cushioning is afforded by an ethylene vinyl acetate (EVA) sock liner. It can be removed or replaced by an insert of the runner’s choosing.

Upper

The upper unit of the New Balance Fresh Foam Gobi Trail v2 features a cloth-like material called engineered mesh. Some areas are tightly woven to enable a snug coverage. The front and sides have ventilation pores to permit airflow into the foot-chamber.

A Gusseted Tongue seals the opening of the shoe and prevents debris from going inside it.

A thin layer of synthetic material called Toe Protect is printed onto the toe-box. Its purpose is to shield the forefoot from abrasive debris and surfaces.

The heel part has an external counter that features the “Fresh Foam Gobi v2” branding. This plastic add-on has the goal of holding the back of the foot in place and preventing it from exiting the shoe unintentionally.
