Updates to Adidas Aerobounce 2
- On the Adidas Aerobounce 2 is the Bounce cushioning technology on the midsole. It gives runners a good amount of cushioning and comfort. On top of that, since the material is firm, it affords runners a more stable ride.
- The upper has TPU Banding which improves the fit of the shoe. The banding also minimally stabilizes the foot to the platform, acting as a wrap on the midfoot during runs. To enhance the comfort from within, a suede lining was added.
- The Aerobounce 2 has a 10-mm drop, which is suitable for heel strikers as it provides the adequate cushioning during impact. Another running shoe comparable to the Aerobounce 2 regarding heel-to-toe drop is the Brooks Launch 6, also for the roads.
Size and fit
The Adidas Aerobounce 2 is available in standard running shoe lengths. Runners who are interested in owning a pair can make use of the usual running shoe sizes they are accustomed to. The same goes for the width. It is available in B – medium and D – medium, for women and men respectively.
The outsole is made up of Blown Rubber. From its name, it was either expanded or mixed with air during its manufacturing. The process results in a material that’s lighter and cushier than other tough outsole materials. Though it is not as durable as Carbon Rubber, it still does its job in protecting the bottom of the shoe.
The tread underneath is made up of a pattern of flex grooves and segmented sections of rubber shaped into diamonds with rounded edges. To reduce the weight of the Blown Rubber further, spaces were designed in between the segments of rubber.
On the midsole is Adidas’ Bounce technology. It’s a midsole cushion that’s springier and more responsive when compared to standard midsole foams. Because of its structured components, it expands when pressure is applied as in the case when the foot lands on the ground. When the foot is lifted, and the pressure on the midsole gone, the components spring back to their original shape, aiding the runner in propelling forward.
The upper is made up of a textile called Engineered Mesh. This type of material is more durable compared to standard mesh materials. It holds its shape, providing minimal support while permitting air to go in and out of the shoe easily. With these benefits, runners are able to feel comfortable and braced during runs.
For further reinforcement and bettering of the upper’s durability, a fortified toe bumper was added which protects the toes if the runner bumps into objects while running. The bumper makes the tip of the shoe harder, absorbing most of the force during an accidental stubbing.
On the inside, an internal heel counter was added to improve the fit and secure feel from within. This component also aids in keeping the foot in place while the runner is in motion. Just like the structures, it doesn’t stabilize the foot 100%, but it still helps immobilize the heel slightly.
There is an external TPU (Thermoplastic Polyurethane) Banding on the upper which delivers structure throughout the midfoot. It works together with other shoe components to provide nominal support and immobilization.
There is also an A-frame lacing from within that supplements the midfoot support delivered by the TPU Bands. As the traditional lace-up closure is tightened, the bands tighten as well, improving the secure fit of the shoe.
