The low-top Nike Zoom X Vista Grind is a running-inspired shoe that brings the definition of the dad shoe to the next level. Its chunky sole has an angular heel that displays modern aesthetics, creating a bigger and bolder look.

Specifically designed for urban streets, this sneaker features an exaggerated chunky midsole that takes inspiration from high fashion and streetwear intending to combine superior comfort and distinct style.

The shoe's design is ideal for warmer weather. It has a translucent upper with contrasting colors by the heel counter and on the tongue area. Also, it has the Swoosh logos on the lateral and medial sides that create a 3D effect.

The Nike Zoom X Vista Grind is a modern and futuristic shoe that brings the dad shoe trend to a brand new level. It features an ultra-chunky midsole that truly stands out.

The midsole has cutouts that show the Zoom X foam, originating from an aerospace innovation. Created from the scraps of old Zoom X shoes, the recycled foam offers a lightweight feel and a responsive step.

The Nike Zoom X Vista Grind was initially released on July 4 of 2019. Since then, it has been spotted on Instagram posts of girls. According to Shamees Aden, one of the shoe designers, the sneaker is a combination of style and substance.

Inspired by the running DNA, the shoe's translucent mesh upper is interpreted through layering and modern details. It has an asymmetric mesh tongue that adds more depth to the semi-translucent upper finish. Its outsole and midsole are designed with a raw and angular shape. Also, its chunky midsole unit is filled with recycled Zoom X foam that is seen through the cutouts.

                 The story behind the design

Back in 2018, a Nike team from training, running, and sportswear headed to Paris to meet their customers. With hopes of creating a new style, the team got their inspiration from the city of Paris and the Women's World Cup. Because of the influence of the clash of suburbs and the city, the team was able to design a shoe that was refined yet rebellious. They merged the authentic and modern, fitting into both worlds of the street and high fashion.

The Nike Zoom X Vista Grind was a product of Nike's objective and innovation. The key deliverable was to conceptualize and create a shoe that demonstrates the new innovation of the brand, targeting female consumers who are bold and visionary. The team behind the design wanted to showcase juxtaposition in the Zoom X Vista Grind.

Since the vital driver of the project was sustainability, the team thought of utilizing the Zoom X foam from the running shoes and installing it into the Vista Grind design. Consequently, they created a unique comfort sensation for users to enjoy every day.

Both Nike's engineering and development teams were careful enough not to compromise on the innovation of midsole and outsole as well as the design intent. They managed to develop an exaggerated and bold design aesthetic without compromising on the vision for the Nike Zoom X Vista Grind.

The Nike Zoom X Vista Grind released as a women’s-only silhouette

Nike's creative director Georgina James wanted to celebrate both the city of Paris and the moment of the Women's World Cup. So, she challenged the team to make a new and alluring sneaker that boldly speaks to female customers.

This challenge birthed to a new bold silhouette that is inspired by the culture and driven by innovation. The shoe was designed for women, yet it was well-accepted by men as well.

  • The Nike Zoom X Vista Grind has a heel pull tab for an easy slip.
  • It has an architectural TPU heel clip and asymmetrical TPU eyestays for reinforcement.
  • The midsole adds at least 2 inches in height.
  • It has a rubber outsole for an optimum grip.
