Updates to Brooks PureGrit 5
- The Brooks PureGrit 5 is a low-profile running shoe that’s meant for the trails. This model encourages natural movement and versatility when traversing the uneven surfaces of the great outdoors. It doesn’t have a hefty set of features that might make it look bulky or heavy, but its components are efficient and capable.
- The upper unit of this running shoe has been designed to resist the abrasive and potentially damaging nature of the trails. The lower portion of the upper—near the edge of the sole unit—has been reinforced with a layer that’s lightweight, flexible and resistant to abrasion. Also, dust and other small debris won’t be able to penetrate the interior chamber because of the Dust Shield.
- The mid-sole unit of the Brooks PureGrit 5 features a full-length foam that’s made from recycled materials and proprietary compounds. It’s soft and springy, and it actually molds itself to the shape of the wearer’s foot. Basically, it makes the underfoot experience more tuned to the individual.
- Layered between the outsole and the mid-sole is a thermoplastic EVA cover that’s actually meant to prevent jagged surfaces and debris from poking against the platform and causing discomfort to the underside of the foot. Gripping lugs provide multi-surface traction, which is helpful when it comes to traversing the unpredictable surfaces of the great outdoors.
Size and fit
The 5th version of the PureGrit from Brooks has a standard running shoe length. The sizing schemes actually follow regular measurements. The available width for both the men and women’s versions is medium. It welcomes those with medium sized feet. Its semi-curved shape adheres to the natural curve of the human foot.
The outsole of the Brooks PureGrit 5 features blown rubber, which is a durable material that’s actually flexible. It doesn’t make the platform stiff or unwieldy. It also protects the mid-sole from wear and tear.
The surface of the outsole showcases hexagonal gripping lugs which is also used in the shoe's latest version, the PureGrit 7. The lugs pockmark the entire area and their purpose is to deliver excellent traction on a variety of surfaces, thus making multi-surface traversal more agreeable and attainable.
Between the mid-sole and outsole is a sheath made from thermoplastic EVA. Called the Ballistic Rock Shield, it protects the foot from any jagged surface or pointy debris.
The BioMoGo DNA foam which is also featured in the popular trail running shoe, the Cascadia 13, is an amalgamation of two separate technologies. Made from recycled materials, it delivers a friendly message about the environment. It’s still sturdy and long-lasting, though. It can also adapt to the shape of the wearer’s foot, making the underfoot experience more customized.
The Omega Flex Grooves are indentations in the mid-sole unit. They make the platform more flexible, but they do not sacrifice the quality of cushioning.
The Profile Sock Liner gives additional contoured support to the foot. It is able to cushion the arch, which may actually feel more comfortable.
Air mesh is the main fabric used in the upper unit of the Brooks PureGrit 5. It accommodates air into the foot-chamber, thus keeping the foot well-ventilated.The Reinforced Abrasion Zones are sections in the upper that have been layered with an abrasion-resistant material. It prevents debris and other trail hazards from affecting the structural integrity of the upper fabrics.
The Adjustable Midfoot Strap is an add-on in the mid-foot section, which is connected to the lacing system. Adjusting the shoelaces causes this strap to follow suit, therefore making the coverage more customizable.
The Dust Shield design is a net-like construction that prevents small debris and dust from entering the fabrics and lodging into the foot-chamber.
