Size and fit

The Nike Sock Dart SE is offered for men and women. Ladies can freely choose the best suitable size for them from 5-11 while the gentlemen can have options from 4-14. Although laces are a skipped feature on these sneakers, the slip-on sock-like fit and feel of the sneakers and the midfoot straps provide a more secure and snug fit.

Nike Sock Dart SE Style

In summer 2017, Nike introduced the Sock Dart SE which features a new breathable knit upper, similar to the look and feel of a sock. The minimalist design of this highlights a deconstructed and Avante-garde look, which stays consistent in the futuristic style. The boldness of this sneaker creates a statement on its own, making it ideal to pair it with a simple outfit like shirt and jeans.

Notable Features

Backed up by its futuristic aesthetic, the Nike Sock Dart SE is also comfortable thanks to its Phylon midsole. This technology is composed of compressed, heated, cooled, and molded EVA foam pellets. It results in a low-profile, lightweight, and responsive midsole. What is unique about this is that it can be sculpted into various designs.

Nike Sock Dart SE History

The idea started in 1984, when one of the founders of Nike, Bill Bowerman created a mission for the creative and HTM legends Hiroshi Fushiwara, Tinker Hatfield and Mark Parker to create a sneaker that fits the description "sock with a sole." From this, the Nike Sock Racer came into existence.

This model became responsible for the emergence of the Sock Dart, which was released in 2004, 20 years after the Racer's inception. Although both sneakers carry a minimalist and lightweight design, the Sock Dart sported a new computerized fabric called Flyknit. More so, the straps, a feature attributed to the Sock Racer, were replaced with transparent, thicker silicone straps that not only enhanced the comfort but gave it a sleeker and futuristic appeal.

The first released Sock Darts carried monochrome and toned colorways, which was intentional to let the aesthetic of the shoe, speak. More so, these sneakers did not get introduced through crazy marketing schemes. Rather, it was done ever so quietly, only in limited quantities and with just a few stores carrying. It did not become a hindrance to the sales of the sneakers. Instead, the exclusivity posed to its advantage as it became a coveted piece for sneakerheads.

Additional Info

  • The Nike Sock Dart SE has outsole flex grooves which inhibit natural movement.
