Nike SB Zoom Stefan Janoski Canvas Premium History

The Nike SB or Nike Skateboarding sub-brand of the world’s top shoemaker was introduced in 2002. Since then, it has released significant apparel and shoes catering to the needs of the skateboarding community.

Among its famous designs and probably the most significant among the skate shoes coming out of the Portland, Oregon-based manufacturer is the Nike SB Zoom Stefan Janoski released in 2009.

Named after the famous American professional skateboarder, Nike SB and Janoski developed the signature chukka-style design that resembled that of a boat shoe with a low-profile silhouette. The model comprises a high traction gum sole with vulcanized rubber over a canvas and suede combination upper that has excellent cushioning and grip. It also features a Nike Air Zoom unit that contributes a lightweight cushioning making this kick well-loved by skateboarders and non-skaters alike.

The design became an instant hit among the skateboarding community that has long been left wanting for dependable daily wear sneakers coming from the Nike backlot. With its colorful style selections, the company first came out with a lace-up design and eventually released a slip-on version which also gathered a lot of interest among many sneaker fans.

Its casual and street-style finish and versatility in colorways also contributed much to its fan interest and following. Although trailing behind compared to other popular skateboarding shoe brands like Vans, the Stefan Janoski line became a serious contender in the community with its regular low-key features that deliver good rides for many skaters.

Among the favorite colorways of the Nike SB Zoom Stefan Janoski are the black and mint colorway as well as the all-black variation with the noticeable white soles. The design is flexible footwear that adjusts well to a variety of movements including Janoski’s well-known switch-stance and casual board style.

While other skateboarding footwear brands have trendy slip-on designs, it was only in 2016 that Nike SB considered releasing a slip-on version of the Janoski kicks. A year earlier than the slip-on release, the company sub-brand released the Nike SB Zoom Stefan Janoski Canvas Premium in 2015 with unique graphic prints in the upper and premium materials giving a sense of prestige to the design of the iconic skateboarding shoe.
