Size and fit

The Nike Mayfly Lite SE is a men’s silhouette that is available in sizes ranging from 4 to 15. Half sizes are offered by the brand as well. Instead of the usual eyelets, the Mayfly Lite SE makes use of lacing loops that provide the same secure and adjustable fit as standard lace closure systems. Padding along the heels and collars provide additional cushioning for walks around the city.

Nike Mayfly Lite SE Style

Take leisurely strolls around town with the Nike Mayfly Lite SE. These sneakers are great for walks and light exercise. Wear them with joggers and jeans with turned-up bottoms. Add a cool statement tee and a jacket into the mix, and you’re good to go.

Notable Features

The minimalistic design of the Nike Mayfly Lite SE combined with unrelenting comfort and cushioning make these shoes distinctive from the crowd. Excellent comfort comes from several key areas in the shoes—from the zonal padding throughout the footbeds to the memory foam heel counters and the dual-density Phylon midsoles.

Nike Mayfly Lite SE History

In 2003, Nike unveiled the Nike Mayfly, one of the lightest shoes ever created. The running shoes were named after the insect that lives all of one day, and the shoes were designed in much the same way. After taking runners to a distance of 100km, they were engineered to fall apart and be discarded.

The shoes were launched as a nod to Bill Bowerman, the late co-founder of Nike and renowned University of Oregon coach who brought the school 24 NCAA championships. The Mayfly embodied what Bill Bowerman often said shoes must be: light, comfortable, and goes the distance.

Since the shoes were engineered to be disposable, each Nike Mayfly pair came packaged with a return card so that the sneakers can be sent back to the brand for recycling through their “Grind” program which turns these footwear into running tracks and basketball court surfaces.

The Nike Mayfly became the subject of overhauls with premium and woven editions released by the brand soon after. But the Mayfly Lite SE is an iteration that revisits the silhouette’s spare and basic roots. It keeps most of the details of the original including the rip-stop nylon fabric uppers. The updates are kept to a minimum such as the added heel and collar paddings.
