Nike Flight Bonafide History

The Flight Bonafide, one of the Nike's lifestyle silhouettes, is inspired by the Nike Zoom Flight 95 basketball shoe. Representing the year 2017, it is part of the Five Decades of Basketball collection alongside the Nike Blazer Studio Low (1972), Nike Air Force 1 High SL (1982), Nike Air Foamposite Pro (1997) and Nike Air Zoom Generation (2003). Although the basketball-inspired sneaker had a White, Rose Gold, and Vachetta Tan theme when it was first hyped by the Swoosh brand, Nike did not release the version of the Flight Bonafide in this colorway as of its launch date.

Instead, the OG Nike Flight Bonafide first came out in a black and white colorway inspired by the original Black/White colorway of the Nike Zoom Flight 95. Designed by Nike shoe designer Ben Kirschner, the man behind the Nike Air Force 1 SF, the modern and futuristic looking Nike Flight Bonafide shoe was heavily inspired by the Nike Air Zoom Flight 95 basketball kick.

The Nike Zoom Flight 95, the main inspiration behind the design of the Nike Flight Bonafide shoe, was among the first Nike shoes with the Zoom Air technology. It received several nicknames such as Grasshoppers and Bug Eyes because of the prominent bubbles found at the side. Jason Kidd wore this shoe when he was still an NBA rookie. At some point, the shoe was called the Nike Air Flight 95 Jason Kidd Premium.

After dropping in a black and white colorway in 2017 with pods in the midsole that give the shoe its futuristic design, the Nike Flight Bonafide sneaker was also dropped in several colorways. Some of the sporty colorways dropped include the Triple Black, Wolf Grey, Black/Red, Multicolor, Cargo Khaki, Cool Grey, Blue, and Light Brown with some variants released in rubber gum sole instead of the regular white bottom.

Releasing in time for the NBA All-Star Weekend, the sock-like fit of the shoe comes prepared for high impact activities as the Nike Air cushioning makes the wearing experience quite comfortable. The high-top sneaker comes in a Flyknit upper construction with easy access zippered enclosure at the heel for easy on and off. The Nike Flight Bonafide was priced at $150 at retail.
