Nike Air Zoom Pegasus 92 Premium History

Back in 1983, Nike designer Bruce Kilgore together with then Nike CEO Mark Parker and other Nike designers worked on a running shoe with an idea in mind – it should be an affordable option for runners. They came up with a simple-designed running shoe with a nylon and suede upper known as the Nike Pegasus. It received an official name change to “Nike Air Pegasus” when air-sole cushioning became one of the best options for runners. The 1987 version of this shoe had more air volume in the heel for improved cushioning, while the front part of the sole utilized EVA foam.

In 1989, the Nike Air Pegasus upgraded its material from synthetic leather to a soft and breathable mesh upper, while the Nike Air midsole and a rubber outsole retained. Its release received a positive response from runners that it became a hit and one of the best sellers of its era. This version inspired another bestseller from the line, the Nike Air Pegasus 1992 version. It took the synthetic mesh and leather upper with side panels, but the lateral reinforcements along the heel are much larger than that in the earlier version.

Fast forward to 2016, Nike launched a premium version of the Nike Air Pegasus 92 known officially as the Nike Air Zoom Pegasus 92 Premium. The upgraded materials made the classic shoe look more sophisticated and even more stylish. It utilizes a premium leather on the upper, a Nike Air Zoom unit midsole, and a herringbone-patterned outsole.
