Nike Air Max Speed Turf History

It was in 1979 when Nike first launched its Cushioning Technology that changed the way athletes perform. It was engineered by the legendary footwear designer Tinker Hatfield, the designer of several Jordan sneakers. Eight years after, the Swoosh re-engineered its cushioning features by developing a larger Nike Air component and made it visible. The Nike Air Max 1 was introduced in 1987 that made athletes feel and see the values of Nike's cushioning system. Since then, several iterations were launched molded from the Air Max silhouette.

In 1995, Nike introduced the Air Max Speed Turf as a soccer training kick. It was seen worn by one of the greatest quarterbacks Dan Marino of the Miami Dolphins. This model displayed a midfoot strap, with the iconic visible 360 degrees Max Air unit in the heel. It also came with a waffle pattern outsole to provide durable and consistent traction on and off the field. In 2012, this model was retro-ed but did not reach a steady status on the shelves.

Currently, Nike is introducing several OG colorways of the Air Max Speed Turf to present to the modern market. The brand kept it untouched to deliver an authentic throwback vibe.
