Nike Air Max 97/BW Style
A culmination of Nike Air Max shoes from the 90s, the Nike Air Max 97/BW exudes a retro 90s aesthetic through and through. The BW’s stylish mixture of materials accentuated with prominent Swoosh logos on the side exudes classic old-school good looks that perfectly complement the 97’s futuristic full-length Air Max sole.
The hybrid kick easily matches with almost any casual ensemble. From shorts to leggings, pants to skirts and dresses, it could amp up your outfit with its versatile and simple yet profound aesthetic.
A unique approach of taking two 90’s running-inspired silhouettes, the Nike Air Max 97/BW hauled the BW’s upper and set it on top of the 97’s sole marrying two icons to forge its own narrative. With an upper crafted from a combination of textile and synthetic leather materials, the rubber Swoosh design gives homage to the original BW design while the 3M reflective accent gives an ode to the OG Air Max 97. Finally, the iconic full-length Air Max unit of the AM 97 is not only innovative and historic but also provides time-tested cushioning.
Nike Air Max 97/BW History
Carrying on the collaborative flow between British Grime artist Skepta and giant sportswear brand Nike, the two entities introduced their third synergetic model called the Nike Air Max 97/BW SK. This collaborative model is a hybrid design that features for the first time the upper of the BW fused with the 97’s Air Max unit. The SK version intentionally bathed the shoes with mismatched accent colors with a dominantly white upper with blue rubber Swoosh and Air Max sole for the left shoe and red Swoosh and Air Max unit on the right giving a nod France’s flag and Skepta’s infatuation for Paris.
After an outpouring of positive reviews for the Nike Air Max 97/BW SK, the Swoosh brand speedily released more colorways for the hybrid model’s general release. These hues harken back to Air Max 97 and Air Max BW’s original colorways producing not only a hybrid of designs but also of iconic colorways.
Some of the Nike Air Max 97/BW’s colors are gold, silver, and hematite. Official colorway names are as follows: deep royal blue/university red/metallic silver/black also known as “Deep Royal,” metallic gold/white/black/ university red also known as “Metallic Gold,” black/metallic silver /Atlantic blue/white also known as “Big Window,” metallic silver/black/white/Persian violet also known as “Persian Violet,” and black/metallic hematite/black also known as “Hematite.”
