Nike Air Max 1 Ultra 2.0 Essential History
In its decades of existence, the Air Max Series has been one of the most sought-after lines in the Nike range making it a vital part of the brand’s DNA. Nike created a revolutionary invention, that turned classic, by being the first one to incorporate the Air Sole technology into one of their shoe designs. Initially released in 1987, the Air Max 1 has been the “holy grail” for many sneaker enthusiasts.
30 years since its debut, the Air Max range has released countless models with different interpretation and transformation every time. Nike offered an abundance of new shoe models in striking color combinations and innovative designs that both athletes and collectors approved of, making it one of the most well-known shoes in existence.
Today the Nike Air Max 1 Ultra 2.0 Essential is one of the line’s latest additions to the growing range. The shoe pays tribute to the original by adding a third window to the Max Air unit. It has the same silhouette as its predecessor but it now comes in a lighter and more breathable upper material. Combining both the original Air Max 1’s classic aesthetic and today’s modern technology, this shoe is an elevated version of its earlier counterpart.

Fit & Sizing
The upgraded mesh upper of the Nike Air Max 1 Ultra 2.0 Essential offers a more breathable and comfortable fit. The synthetic leather mudguard firms up the framework of the soft mesh upper. It also adds a protective layer to all sides of the shoe for that ultimate comfort and secure fit. Although reported to be a bit narrow, buyers can opt to go a size bigger if they really want to cop a pair. Men’s sizes run from 6-15 with half sizes available.
The update to mesh upper makes the Air Max 1 Ultra 2.0 Essential more comfortable and flexible to wear. The no-sew overlay on the upper also adds a cleaner and cohesive look to the shoe’s overall design. The synthetic leather mudguard not only enhances durability and secures fit but also adds a stylish element to the shoe. Nike’s signature swoosh logo can be seen on both sides of the shoe while an embossed Nike Air logo is placed on the heel part. The visible max Air unit is also exposed on the outsole of the shoe.
- The prominent white line on the tonal black colorway of the Nike Air Max 1 Ultra 2.0 Essential reportedly glows in the dark.
- The inner part of the shoe is finished with Ortholite sockliner for comfort and lightweight cushioning.
- There are added flex grooves found in the center of the outsole’s forefoot to add flexibility.
