Edit, Oct 29: I've temporarily narrowed my focus to hiring for just this one role. If you are interested in any of the other three roles (photographer, tester, PR) that I posted previously, and that we're still hiring for, you can email me at jens@runrepeat.com.

Most people I talk to say "what... does such a place to work even exist?". And yes, here it is!

I'm Jens, founder of RunRepeat, the world's largest running and athletic shoe review site. 40 million people read our reviews every year, and have done so for 11 years now. We're now expanding to do footwear testing services for brands, which is what you'll work with.

The job

Essentially, your job is to manage and own our footwear testing services / prototype testing (click the link, which we offer brands. We started offering this service four months ago, and the interest from brands has been significant.

  • Explore what footwear testing services are relevant for brands reaching out to us.
  • Do the actual testing of the shoes they send us and return data/results.
  • Establish long-term partnerships with brands that want us to do all of their prototype testing, quality control, or variance testing.
  • Help develop new testing services that are sought after by the market/brands.
  • Help research new machines (or develop new testing protocols) for the lab for our shoe reviews and/or footwear testing services.
  • Secondary tasks (depending on your skills and interests):
    • Test and review shoes and write guides
    • Small research experiments that are relevant to our testing
    • Meet with brands at their HQ's, see their labs, get inspiration
    • Proactively reach out to partners on joint research projects

The ideal candidate

"Ideal" is often unattainable, but it's a way to paint a clear picture of the perfect scenario. Based on the applications I've received, no candidate is ideal. Just ensure you live up to the "minimum required" in the table below. If you have a few elements from the "ideal" column, it's a plus.

  Ideal Minimum required
Education PhD in biomechanics MSc in a relevant field.

THIS is why you’ll love being part of our team

  • 100% flexibility. No rules about when you work as long as you do your job. No 9 am to 6 pm. Do what works for YOU! I believe that 2+ days a week in our lab in Aveiro, Portugal, is needed, but it depends on what tasks you're working on. The rest of your time can be done from whereever you prefer.
  • We have minimal bureaucracy and high autonomy. In RunRepeat, you OWN your work. There are no deadlines, other than the ones you set yourself.
  • Barely any meetings. I myself have only 1 scheduled meeting per week, lasting 2 to 30 minutes.
  • A yearly meetup, all paid for by RunRepeat. We typically rent a big villa, make food together, go swimming, hike, explore local life and so on. We’ve previously visited Greece, Italy, France, Turkey, Indonesia, Thailand, The Philippines, Bulgaria, and Denmark.
