Overview of this guide
How we review the best sneakers for men
Most of the time, we say that a shoe is great based on what brands say. But, not us. Here’s a list of what we do:
- We buy the shoes and test them out ourselves.
- Reviews from users and experts around the globe are collected and analyzed.
- We get nerdy and compute and assign a score for each shoe that we review.
We just love getting into the nitty-gritty details of each shoe, and the best way to do that is to try them on and beat ‘em up good. The data we gather also helps a lot in getting the people’s general opinion about the shoes. Finally, with the Corescore you can easily compare how the shoes are performing against each other.
When you’re after the best classic sneaker for men, it definitely has to be a shoe from his Airness. And for us, that’s no other than the Air Jordan 1 Mid.
This Jordan model, which was released in the 2000s, was specifically built for casual use unlike its siblings the AJ 1 High and Low which were built for the hardwood court. Like the high-top, this one also kept our ankles from twisting. It also has that edgy retro vibe that we love so much.
And since this is a shoe from MJ’s collection, you can expect people to stare at its classy yet sporty construction. We went for a walk with these bad boys on and got so many nods and compliments, we couldn’t help but smile.
Comfort-wise, these $150 kicks didn’t disappoint. Not one bit! We didn’t have to worry about pain or sore feet even after wearing this for hours.
One thing they can improve, though, is the quality of the leather used on these sneaks. Too bad, it’s not as buttery, smooth as those found in the high-tops. It’s a good thing that they’re sturdy and can take a beating.
Since it’s stylish, comfortable, and durable, overall, we’re HAPPY! So, if you want to add it to your rotation, go right ahead! Your pals will surely give you a thumbs up when you have these on.
A shoe that echoes an early 90’s vibe is always a good buy, especially when it’s a sneaker that was actually released during that era - like the Adidas Gazelle. It’s not surprising why this shoe is still making waves even after three decades.
It was good then, and it’s still good now, maybe even better! Still looking simple and clean with the iconic Three Stripes logo, this shoe sure is a classic through and through. It’s also something we consider "essential" since this one just goes with anything.
When it comes to comfort, these bad boys know what comfort is all about. Walking in these didn’t feel like a chore. In fact, it was the exact opposite. The nubuck upper on these (which by the way felt so soft and buttery) hugged our feet snugly. There were no hot spots or irritating seams. It was just perfect.
What’s more, these sneaks felt cozy on day one. So, if you’re someone who hates breaking in shoes, you’ll definitely like these.
If there’s anything we didn’t like about this shoe, it’s its stiff tongue. It’s not that big a deal, though. If you think about all the rewards you can reap from wearing these kicks, the stiff tongue is so minor. And for only $80, who are we to complain?!
Best tennis shoe
On the lookout for the best tennis shoe for men? In our books, the best one is still the Stan Smith from Adidas. After all, this fine-looking kick, which has been around since 1965, still has it.
Just look at it, it still looks so clean and sleek. No matter what year or era you’re in, you know this will forever stay on-trend. It’s just a timeless piece that will never get outdated. The classic white/green colorway is still the best-looking for us since this just oozes with loads of throwback appeal.
Want to know how these fit? Well, we tried it and TBH, they’re bigger than expected. And since the lining is made of leather, the feet tend to slide all over. But, fret not. Just size down. We did that and finally got the right size.
Be warned, though, the leather on these will feel a bit stiff at first. But, soon enough, this softens up. And when that happens, your feet are in for a treat. The upper is also naturally watertight and somewhat stain-resistant. So, if you like the plain white kicks, just go for it. You won’t have a hard time keeping these clean.
Apart from its fuss-free upkeep, you’ll like how these will keep your tootsies warm and toasty during fall or even winter (as long as it’s not freezing cold). They’re also durable and the leather still looks nice even when worn out. So, for $90, these sure are worth its price. It’s iconic and it lasts, what more can you ask for?!
If you think that the Adidas Stan Smith is already all over the place, then you might as well check out Reebok’s Club C 85.
Just like the Adidas Stan Smith, the Club C 85 is also a minimalist shoe that’s oozing with retro appeal. Why shouldn’t it? A shoe launched in the year 1985, it is also a true blue classic shoe that’s hard to miss. However, unlike the Stan Smiths that look so darn clean, these kicks got some added oomph, thanks to its edgy-looking leather panels.
When it comes to sizing, these also feel a bit roomy. But the extra room for us felt just right. These shoes also felt so comfy. We don’t mind having these shoes on for the entire day because our feet just felt right at home.
And to top it all off, they’re light and airy. So, if you’re looking for a pair of breathable kicks for your summer adventure, THIS IS IT!
Now, truth be told, these aren’t like the Club C 85s you had back in the day. The terry lining isn’t as thick as before. But, if you consider its $90 price tag, its quality is already great. The leather on these kicks is also hard-wearing, so you know that you’re actually getting more from it.
Best dad shoe
Yes, dad shoes are still in! And if you want to know our thoughts on which one is the best, the answer is the Nike Air Monarch IV. After all, it’s the KING of all dad shoes!
Just like any good-looking dad shoe in the market, the Air Monarch IV from Nike is just oozing with that unmistakable retro 90s vibe. It’s also oh so beefy! You just know that these kicks mean endless stares from other pips. And if you’re a bit shy, this also makes for a great conversation starter.
If you’re wondering how this feels on feet, well, it’s just amazing! Its thick soles aren’t there solely for looks, it’s also there to keep your feet comfy 24/7. It’s also great that it comes with a roomy toe box. We just love how this shoe gave enough space for toe splay even with our wide feet.
Apart from looking good outside and its cushy interior, this kick is also great for lots of things. We wore this like crazy for walks, light runs, and other stuff that normal people would often do day in and day out and these were just perfect. A great all-rounder that’s priced right, we just have good things to say about this shoe.
Another shoe that’s worth adding to your collection is the Adidas Ozweego. This is especially perfect for those who’re on the hunt for chunky, dad kicks that SCREAM.
If you’ve seen it, you’ll definitely understand where we're coming from. This beefy pair of kicks is just so loud and bold, you’d have to make an effort if you wish to be unseen. After all, this has that Yeezy vibe that’s hard to miss.
Now, if you think that you’ll have a hard time dressing this up, think again. Man, this just looks so good on any sporty outfit (think joggers and shorts). It also matches well with everyday tops and bottoms like ripped jeans, chinos, cargo pants, and the like.
And just like the Monarch, these shoes’ chunky soles are also there to keep your tootsies feeling nice and cozy the whole day. However, these are surprisingly light, it’s crazy! Walking and running in these the whole day didn’t tire our feet one bit.
One let down, though, is the type of materials used. This could certainly use some upgrade. Nonetheless, these are already awesome given its $110 price tag. It’s a fair price to pay considering its arresting Yeezy-like aesthetic and homey interiors.
Having a pair of high-tops is a must. And the Vans Sk8-Hi is one kick you ought to have if you enjoy wearing these kinds of kicks.
Apart from being incredibly cheap, this classic sneaker from Vans ticks a lot of boxes. But, we’ll start with the obvious.
Just by looking at it, you know you’ve hit the jackpot. Its classic style never gets old. And when we say never, we mean it. After all, this one has been around since 1972.
Next to looks, what’s so likable about these shoes is its easy-to-style construction. Anything goes with these sneaks. We paired it with denim, khaki pants, shorts, and even a kimono, and we just rocked it.
Now, if you want to know if these kicks last, they do. Since they were originally made for skateboarding, these shoes know what being sturdy is all about (even for the canvas-clad models). They also feel comfy once they’re broken in. And the canvas on these is also breathable.
Lacing these, though, takes time. And if you want a better fit, you might want to change up the lacing a bit. Adding a bit of support on the arches would also make this one a whole lot better. But these didn’t really change our minds since we’ve already expected this from a classic high-top. For only $65, this shoe is already a bang for the buck!
If you want something a bit edgy, you have to check out the Run Star Hike from Converse.
These high-tops are so much like the Chucks since it still has the recognizable fuss-free canvas upper and rubber toe cap. However, under our all-time favorite Chucks’ canvas upper is a chunky platform sole. And, it’s not just any kind of platform sole. These shoes’ soles got some toothy outsole that’s hard to unsee.
But, you know what?! Amazingly, this upgrade looks so good and spunky! We can’t help but get one and try it on. And, it’s good that we did because these are so comfy.
We all know how the regular Chucks felt on feet. Yes, they look great but they could use a bit of cushioning and support underfoot. It’s different with the Run Star Hikes. The added sole actually amped up these kicks’ comfort levels and support through the roof. So, two thumbs up for you - Converse.
And if you think these will weigh you down because of their chunky soles, boy you’re wrong! These felt light on feet, we were just blown away. Its height-boosting element is just a plus.
So, if you’re a bit doubtful about paying $110 for a pair of Converse kicks, don’t be! Given all the added perks, the uptick in the price on these is well worth it.
Best budget sneaker
Who doesn’t love slip-ons?! They’re easy to wear and easy to carry. They’re just perfect travel buddies. Now, if you want something cheap but still high-quality, then your best pick is the Vans Slip-On.
Yes, you heard it right. We all know that these are not in any way new. In fact, they’re old shoe models that have been around for ages. But, that’s the point. They’re classics. A reliable timeless piece that wouldn’t let you down.
True, wearing these isn’t like wearing Air- or Boost-soled kicks. But those cost double or even triple compared to how much these slip-ons are worth. So, if you think about it, this just feels right. It could use a bit of bounce, but, overall, they feel comfy once they’re broken in.
What’s more, they’re well-made and durable. We used this for running errands and summer outings, and these held up well.
They also go with any outfit. And if you’re the type who loves to buy 3 pairs of the same shoe in different colors, this is it. You can choose from a variety of colorways and buy them without worrying about draining your wallets.
If you prioritize comfort above all else, but you’re a bit tight on the budget, the Nike Tanjun fits the bill.
Not only is this sneaker comfy and cheap, but it’s also good-looking with its simple yet sporty construction. Truly a great buy for its price.
Now, if you think that’s all, you’re mistaken. After all, this shoe wouldn’t be a best-seller years ago if it was all that.
Apart from being comfortable, affordable, and stylish (which we think is already enough for its $65 price), these kicks are also airy and hard-wearing. Its all mesh upper is super, crazy breathable, we love how it keeps our feet dry and cool even under the sweltering heat of the sun. And although it’s made of mesh, it’s also sturdy. Crazy, right?!
If you’re concerned about the fit, be warned because this may feel tight in the toe box area if you have broad feet. Don’t worry, though, because the tightness goes away once the material loosens up. After that, it’s just cozy strides from then on.
