So far, I'm very happy with them—very, very happy.
[T]he Scarpa Terra GTX is ideal if you want a reasonably lightweight boot for general hill-walking, but heavier boots and lighter boots still have advantages.
Overall though, a very nice pair of functional hiking boots which really look the part.
In conclusion, I am really pleased with these boots. They have kept my feet perfectly warm and dry, they’re comfy to wear for long periods of time, and they look great.
[I]deal for hiking smooth, well-trampled trails with moderate loads (less than 35 pounds).
[T]hese boots are great and can be worn all day, even in 30-degree heat you won’t suffer in these boots.
- The Scarpa Terra GTX comes with a leather upper. It has a padded interior for extra cushioning. For waterproofing, the engineers infused the leather upper with a Gore-Tex liner. The boot is also equipped with a gusseted tongue which leaves no gap between the sides of the tongue and the upper, thereby preventing debris from entering the footwear.
- The day hiking boot has a rubber midsole which provides users ground contact comfort, terrain stability, and shock absorption. Traction on various outdoor surfaces, on the other hand, is the responsibility of the Terra GTX’s Vibram outsole. Multi-directional lugs pepper this rubber layer to give wearers a secure foothold on undeveloped terrains.
Scarpa designed the Terra GTX for male and female day hikers. This high-cut boot is created using the BF last which gives the interior a balanced fit and improves the wearer’s performance during scrambling and approach maneuvers. A secure lockdown is achieved with the boot’s closure system. This lacing scheme features a pair of speed hooks placed along the upper shaft of the boot to improve ankle support. It also works with the padded collar and tongue to give wearers a comfortable fit.
The Scarpa Terra GTX utilizes its Vibram Energy outsole for traction. This injection-molded rubber layer has a low rolling resistance and features low-profile protrusions known as lugs which are designed to bite into uneven, rocky surfaces. Tire-like treads are placed on the sides of the sole’s heel zone to aid in lateral maneuvers. There are also ridges on both the rear and front ends of the outsole for extra grip during descents and ascents, respectively.
For shock absorption and footing stability, Scarpa engineers gave the Terra GTX a thick yet contoured midsole. This component is cushy yet compression-resistant as it is made of polyurethane (PU)—a resilient and durable foam compound. It gives the boot a slender lower profile thanks to its tapered construction.
Giving wearers additional underfoot cushioning is the boot’s Comfort Fit insole. It is a removable, nylon footbed unyielding to considerable weight and stress. It also has slightly contoured heel-to-arch borders which cradle the foot in place.
The Terra GTX has a smoothed nubuck leather upper with minimal seams to give the boot a streamlined look and allow for easier cleaning. It comes equipped with Gore-Tex’s Performance Comfort liner—a completely waterproof yet breathable membrane—to wall off wet elements while keeping the user’s foot fresh and dry.
This waterproof boot uses a closure system that features a series of metallic loops and open hooks. The smoothed out interior of these riveted eyelets allow for an effortless lockdown experience. Its rounded laces are made up of entwined synthetic cords which make them sturdy and easy to adjust.
Foreign elements, such as sand, small rocks, and twigs are blocked by the boot's gusseted tongue. This level of debris protection is made possible by a material bridge that seals off the spaces between the upper and the tongue.
The base of the upper’s heel is engineered with a heel cup. This installed component is extra stiff for additional heel support.
-Scarpa recommends the use of a cleaning gel for boots.
