    The Gecko XT incorporates some great features into the upper and midsole, but ultimately falls short of its intended use as a trail shoe for the toughest of trails.

    [I]f you like technical, rocky trails, this shoe is definitely worth a try. If you run a lot of roads and hit the occasional flowy singletrack, you might look elsewhere.

    I'll likely not run in the Gecko XT much beyond this review, but will for sure keep it handy for adventures that require some scrambling or mellow rock climbing with my daughters.

  • The Asics Gecko XT is a running shoe for the trails. It was also crafted to suit those who have neutral pronation. The upper unit features a breathable upper that has a semi-taut weave. Such a design protects the interior chamber from debris and abrasion while also maintaining ventilation. Synthetic overlays reinforce the façade and provide a secure fit.
  • Underfoot cushioning is handled by the FlyteFoam. This full-length material offers lightweight support and responsive steps. A Rock Protection Plate that is sandwiched between the midsole and outsole shields the foot from rough surfaces and trail debris.
  • A layer of durable carbon rubber serves as the external sole unit. Its purpose is to prevent the debilitating effects of continued use from gnawing at the platform. Moreover, it has gripping lugs that heighten traction over a variety of terrain.

The Asics Gecko XT was designed using the standard measurements. So, it is capable of adhering to the regular preferences of consumers, particularly regarding length. The available width of the women’s version is B – Medium while the men’s iteration has the D – Medium option.

The SPEVA 45 is a lasting technique that fuses an Asics proprietary foam with the last to provide additional cushioning for the foot of the wearer.

GeckoTrac is the rubber compound that’s used for the outsole unit of the Asics Gecko XT. It is made out of carbon rubber, which is conventionally considered as a durable material. Its purpose is to protect the rest of the platform from the abrasive nature of the trails. It also doles out surface traction, an essential trait for any running shoe.

Polygonal gripping lugs give traction for the runner, particularly when it comes to traversing uneven topography. The angular nature of these protrusions makes upward and downward navigations less cumbersome.

The midsole unit of the Asics Gecko XT features the FlyteFoam, which is a full-length material that’s designed to deliver responsive cushioning to the foot of the wearer. Strong organic fibers are integrated into the foam to prevent it from sagging or breaking down quickly.

A Rock Protection Plate rests between the outsole and midsole. This sturdy yet semi-bendable piece has the purpose of acting as a barrier against irregular surfaces and other abrasive elements on the trails.

A cushioned footbed provides additional comfort for the underfoot. It has a textile top to maintain a smooth in-shoe feel.

A breathable mesh serves as the primary material for the Asics Gecko XT’s upper unit. It has a partially closed construction to prevent debris from entering the foot-chamber. Still, it can accommodate environmental air for a ventilated experience.

Thin synthetic overlays reinforce the midfoot and forefoot sections. These inconspicuous add-ons protect against abrasion while also delivering a secure fit.

A thick heel cover helps the padded collar is keeping the foot in place and preventing it from exiting the shoe unexpectedly.

A soft fabric lines the interior walls if the Gecko XT. It aims to hug the foot smoothly, giving irritation-free support.

The gusseted tongue stays in place and prevents small pebbles and other trail rubbish from infiltrating the inside of the shoe.

A Lace Garage hides the excess portions of the shoestrings, thus preventing them from unraveling at any point during the running session.
