6 reasons not to buy

  • Many of the testers comment that the Phylon midsole takes time to break in.
  • Some users say that they feel the Zoom Air unit only after the shoe has broken-in.
  • Most of the players did not think the traction is anything special.
  • A few users mention that the Jordan Super.Fly 5 PO fits too tight since it runs narrow.
  • One reviewer says that these Jordan shoes are more for casual rather than performance wear because they look “too clean to play basketball in.” This is also the reason why the eleventh Michael Jordan basketball shoe is released time and time again.
  • Some players think that the shoe is too expensive for the technologies that it offered. It is as overpriced as the 2018 Kobe Bryant AD shoe model.

Bottom line

Although this shoe is the Playoffs version of the Super.Fly 5, many of the shoe’s key features are very different from its predecessor’s. For one, the Playoffs version looks cleaner and sleeker. The Jordan Super.Fly 5 PO also has a midfoot leather strap, whereas the previous model did not. The added details add a feel of luxury, leveling the model up as a lifestyle sneaker.

Every year, the Jordan brand releases a Playoffs version for their Super.Fly series. For 2016, it was the Super.Fly 5 PO. The shoe uses some elements from the Super.Fly 5 such as the traction pattern, forefoot Zoom Air unit, and Phylon midsole. The inner sleeve with the foam pods, however, has been removed. The upper has also been redesigned, giving the PO version of these basketball shoes from the Jordan brand a totally different look.

Cushion. The Jordan Super.Fly 5 PO uses a Zoom Air unit in the forefoot. This technology involves a flat polyurethane pouch filled with tensile fibers. When compressed, these fibers provide a responsive bounce to the user’s feet. The unit is enclosed within the shoe’s Phylon midsole and is only limited to the forefoot.

Traction. Both Super.Fly 5 and the PO version use the same traction pattern on its outsole. They both use a multi-directional diamond pattern surrounded by a shallow hatchet design. In contact areas of the foot, the pattern becomes smaller and a little denser in order to give the shoe a better grip on the surface. To keep the longevity of the shoe’s outsole, it is suggested to use the shoe only for indoor plays.

Length and Width. The Super.Fly 5 PO runs true to size. Thus, new buyers are advised to go for their usual Nike sizes when purchasing the shoe.

Lockdown. Unfortunately, this shoe does not retain the Super.Fly 5’s inner sleeve feature. Instead, it has a simple padded collar that wraps the ankle in place and an added midfoot leather strap that works together with the shoe’s lacing system to provide a secure lockdown.

Instead of using fused-mesh on just the wear areas of the shoe, the PO version of the Super.Fly 5 applies the material on the whole upper. This makes the shoe more durable and easier to clean.

The strap is made of patent leather that features an elephant skin detail. This material extends to the heel area on both sides of the shoe. The midsole is made with a Phylon cushion that is embedded with a Zoom Air unit in the forefoot. The outsole, on the other hand, is made of a hard rubber compound.

The shoe looks luxurious due to its two eyelets and the prominent Jumpman logo and textured detailing on the leather strap. The shoe’s silhouette and strap draw attention to the midfoot, making the wearer’s leg look more elongated. The Super Fly 5 PO is perfect to be paired with both jogger and straight-cut jeans.

The Super.Fly 5 PO comes in clean and simple colorways. Each of the shoe’s versions combines just two or three colors. At least nine colorways are available, and these are the following:

  • Black/Gold
  • Black/Red
  • Black/Red/White
  • Blue/Yellow
  • Eggplant Purple/Black
  • Red/Black
  • White/Black
  • White/Black/Light Gray
  • Yale Blue/White
