Profile of the Jordan Jumpman Z

Through the years, the Jordan brand has established great lines of signature shoes. One of these is the Jumpman series.

The Jordan brand became a separate entity from Nike in the 90s. The first Jumpman was worn by Ray Allen in 1996, and it hit stores in 1997. The succeeding famous Jumpman shoes are the Jumpman Pro Shake, Jumpman Team Pro 2, Jumpman Team Flow, Jumpman Quick 6, Jumpman Swift 6, Jumpman Pro Quick, Jumpman Pro Strong, Jumpman Team Pro 1, and Jumpman Team I.

The Jordan Jumpman Z is a much more modern shoe that is inspired by the classic Air Jordan 14. It features different types of uppers which include leather, textile, and nubuck. As part of its modification, its lacing system is overlapped with a diagonal midfoot shroud. The toe box has perforations for breathability and the tongue is padded. The shoe does not come with an outrigger; instead, both sides of the Jordan Jumpman Z has EVA foam for stability. For court grip and control, the solid rubber outsole features a full-length herringbone traction pattern. The TPU plate at the midfoot helps with transitions. It also provides stability upon landing.

Performance

Cushion. The Air Jordan 14 comes with an articulated Zoom Air unit at the forefoot and a regular Zoom Air unit at the heel. The Jordan Jumpman Z, for its part, has a modified setup. It comes with encapsulated Air-Sole units embedded in its Phylon midsole. For a nice heel-to-toe transition, the midfoot comes with a thermo polyurethane torsional plate. This plate also ensures a precise and stable landing.

Traction. The traction pattern and embellishments on the rubber outsole of the Jordan Jumpman Z are the exact replica of what can be found on the Air Jordan 14. The only missing detail is the ‘XIV’ in the forefoot. The herringbone traction pattern has grooves that are thick and give wearers great control on any court floor.

Fit

Length and Width. The Air Jordan 14 is reported to be true to size. Even so, those with wide feet are advised to fit the shoe prior to the purchase. Because the dual lockdown system of these Jordan basketball shoes, the upper material barely stretches. Wide-footers might fit in them well after break-in time.

Lockdown. To secure the foot, the Jordan Jumpman Z comes with an overlapping shroud in the midfoot. Beneath the shroud is a standard lace-up system. Just like the Air Jordan 14, the Jumpman Z comes with EVA foam on the sides for support and stability. For a more comfortable fit, the textile tongue is well-padded.

Material

Depending on the colorway, the upper of the Jordan Jumpman Z is made of nubuck, mesh, and leather. The toe box is perforated to keep the foot dry at all times. The shoe comes with a dainty pull tab.

Style

Inspired by the the Air Jordan 14, the Jordan Jumpman Z is designed as a luxury shoe. Its upper has an asymmetrical zipper closure on top of its standard lace-up system. The silhouette of the shoe looks futuristic and sporty at the same time. The heel features a cross-hatch design with an embossed number 23 logo similar to that of the Air Jordan 14.

The visible shank plate at the sides are inspired by the Ferrari’s front grille. Jordan logos are found at the tongue and outsole. The Jordan Jumpman Z’s upper comes in different combinations of nubuck, leather, and/or mesh.
