Look away if you:

Excellent shoes for day hikes and lighter load backpacking

The Adidas Terrex AX3 is a durable, hard-wearing hiking shoe that keeps your feet feeling fresh over long miles with its excellent grip and breathable upper. I’d suggest the Adidas Terrex AX3 shoes to anyone who needs a solid grip, or rugged footwear for hiking. For $80, they are a tough deal to beat.

The Adidas Terrex AX3 is made for fast hiking over rough terrain and the grippy sole paired with a breathable upper make for a comfy ride on hot days.

The durability of these shoes was unexpected!

The Terrex AX3 is super durable. I’ve put well over 75 miles on them and they show no signs of premature wear. The upper mesh has proven to be quite durable and the sole seems to be long lasting and grippy at the same time.

AX3 grip is the real deal

Adidas uses Continental rubber for the outsole on the AX3 and it has shown itself to be great in wet and dry environments. With deep lugs and a durable compound, it’s one of the better outsoles available in a low hiking shoe today.

The lacing is ok

The lacing is quite basic, but it does offer a very snug fit when laced tightly. I experienced no lace bite on the upper part of my foot which meant great comfort on and off-trail.

Comfort is superb

Adidas has been making shoes for a long time so you’d think that they can make a comfy hiking shoe. You wouldn’t be wrong… These are quite comfortable and while the toebox is a tad narrow, I never encountered blisters or hotspots.

Need strong feet for high mileage days

These don’t offer much in way of arch support so you’ll need stronger feet for higher mileage days. Just make sure you are comfortable and they fit right.

Needs a few days to break-in

The Terrex AX3 only took a couple of days to really break in. They did loosen up a bit in the toebox but don’t count on full toe splay. With a mix of synthetic and mesh upper they didn’t take long to soften up.

The Terrex AX3 is lightweight

The Adidas Terrex AX3 is a light shoe. This is a huge benefit to those who want to experience less foot fatigue on the trail. Whether it’s breaking into a short-run mid-hike or scrambling over boulders, these offer a light, comfortable fit.
