One upgrade to the iconic and remarkable Reebok shoe is the Reebok Club C 85 Vintage sneaker model. It released in 2016 as an old-school or vintage rendition of the original Club C 85 with few design tweaks to suit its “vintage” theme.
Reebok Club C 85 vs Reebok Club c 85 Vintage
One striking difference between the Reebok Club C 85 Vintage sneaker and its core model, the Reebok Club C 85, is its overall look that oozes with “vintage” appeal. While the Club C 85 shoes offer a myriad of colorways ranging from light hues to vibrant ones and even different materials, the Club C 85 Vintage has one defining feature - it flaunts a "chalk" upper in a soft garment leather material. Although different colorways are available, these only differ in color accents seen on the classic Reebok Starcrest logo on the tongue and the woven window Reebok logo on the quarter panel.
Initially dropped in 1985, the Reebok Club C was basically a more or less re-titled version of the Reebok Revenge Plus. The C stands for Champion. It is a tennis shoe designed to comply with the tennis courts’ dress codes – minimal design and mostly white.
Back then, Reebok was popular in the tennis sneaker scene. The Reebok Club C was one of those Reebok models most favored amongst sneaker fanatics and tennis enthusiasts, both fashion- and performance-wise, as it features a leather material on the upper lined with a comfy terry towel liner and a rubber outsole. It also suited the aerobics craze during the ‘80s.
It was also during that era that Reebok exceeded the company giant Nike in sales and size, and the sales and popularity of this Reebok classic partly contributed to such success. After gaining triumph in tennis and aerobics, Reebok, under the management of American Paul Fireman, then expanded into basketball footwear.
Like other classics, the Reebok Club C was also pulled off the shelves for a short period. But fast forward to February 2016, Reebok brought back the vintage look through the Reebok Club C 85 Vintage for the silhouette’s 30th anniversary. It initially released in two colorways, the Green and Collegiate Blue, and features a clean, subtle look in an overall chalk-colored upper. It also received an upgrade through an injection-molded EVA midsole for improved support and cushioning and a high abrasion rubber outsole.
