If you want a bit more comfort, a bit more relaxed, a bit softer, you might consider the Run 5.
The Skechers GOrun5 is a lightweight trainer that can log the long miles and take a pounding. The fit is superb, with great cushion for a very reasonable price.
Testers raved about the fit, which remained comfortable even at the end of long runs when feet were swollen.
I’m a big fan of the GOrun 5. In terms of preference between the Razor and the GOrun, well, it’s a tie.
The new GoRun 5 loses the rocker-shaped midsole design and adds increased softness and responsiveness to the ride quality.
For a trainer/racer the GOrun 5 delivers across the spectrum. It’s a shoe that can go fast or simply throw down some cruiser miles.
- The Skechers GOrun 5 is a neutral running shoe that’s meant for the roads. It comes in different color schemes that are vibrant, but not too distracting. The façade is made up of a fabric that resembles woven cloth. It’s breathable, flexible and it wraps around the foot like a sock. Traditional layers and overlays aren’t present in this model. Instead, different thread densities give the upper more form and structure.
- The mid-sole unit of this running shoe makes use of a full-length foam technology, which provides durable and responsive cushioning to the foot of the wearer. It also has a soft disposition, but it’s able to attenuate shock during the landing phase. The M-Strike design of the platform encourages mid-foot striking, which is helpful in achieving a more proficient running output.
- Durable rubber material is placed in the forefoot and rear sections of the external sole unit. It protects the cushioning system from the potentially abrasive nature of the roads. The textured design of this section helps in enhancing traction, with non-prominent diamond-shaped nodes acting as pseudo-gripping lugs. The presence of the rubber compound doesn’t sacrifice the overall flexibility of the platform.
The Skechers GOrun 5 has a standard running shoe sizing scheme. It follows the regular expectations of runners. The available width for both the men and women’s versions is medium. It accommodates those who have medium sized feet. Its semi-curved shape adheres to the natural shape of the human foot.
A Parametric Web Outsole is used in the Skechers GOrun 5. It’s composed of a layer of textured rubber that’s placed in the forefoot and heel sections of the outsole. The web-like design and diamond-shaped nodes help in delivering traction over the asphalt. This outsole configuration is relatively the same as the outsole design of the GOrun 6. This technology is also used in some popular running shoes from Skechers.
The 5GEN cushioning is a full-length foam material that’s created to carry the foot responsibly through the running session. It has a soft nature, but it’s durable and long-lasting. It’s also flexible and springy.
The M-Strike design of the sole unit inspires the runner to dole out a mid-foot strike. This helps in promoting a smooth and fast performance.
Additional underfoot cushioning is provided by the Ortholite Sock Liner. It even has anti-microbial and anti-moisture properties, which helps in staving off sweat and odor.
The Go Knit evokes a structure that’s similar to woven cloth. This lightweight material is also soft, smooth, breathable and pliable. Different densities in terms of threading provide more form to the upper unit as there are no traditional overlays. The denser sections of this material actually look like the design of the façade.
Air mesh is a breathable material that’s placed underneath the top fabric. It’s durable yet flexible. It is also breathable, so it is able to easily accommodate air into the foot-chamber.
The Quick Fit Portal is a pull-tab that’s stitched onto the rear section of the Skechers GOrun 5. It allows the runner to put on and remove the shoe with ease.
The Reinforced Lacing System makes use of a set of shoelaces that are strengthened via some extra stitching in its middle portion. An extra eyelet near the anterior section of the collar accommodates a more versatile fit.
A support strap has been integrated into the upper unit. It assists the rest of the fabrics and components when it comes to keeping the foot in place.
