Running shoe tester / reviewer
Update Aug 20: The position has changed! We're looking for an avid runner with English fluency, living in Aveiro, Portugal, or willing to move there (we pay for relocation).
---
Help turn the world’s largest running shoe testing database into reviews that millions of runners can trust. You’ll run in shoes, analyze our lab findings and write detailed, engaging reviews in fluent English. You’ll also help turn our findings into video content and appear on camera (no video experience or technical video knowledge is required, as you’ll work with our dedicated videographer).

The job
Primary job
- Run in and evaluate running shoes, combining your real-world experience with the results from our independent lab tests.
- Write detailed, engaging and easy-to-understand running shoe reviews in English.
- Explain technical findings in a way that helps everyday runners choose the right shoes.
- Continuously improve and update our existing reviews and running shoe content.
- Help turn some of our reviews and lab findings into video content. Cccasionally appear in videos to present our findings and opinions. You will NOT be responsible for filming or editing. You’ll work closely with our dedicated videographer and several members of our content team.
Secondary tasks (depending on your interest and skills)
- Test methods: Lab machine discussions, calibration protocols, new test method discussions.
- Work with athletic footwear other than running shoes (but running is key!)
- Social media: Engage with our community, brainstorm ideas, help shape our social media strategy and continuously improve our formats based on performance, audience feedback and experimentation.
- Or anything else that matches your interest and skills that aligns with our key objectives.
Location
This is a hybrid, full-time role based in Aveiro, Portugal. You should expect to work from our lab at least three days per week. We cover relocation costs if needed.
What it's like to work at RunRepeat
- A ton of flexibility. No rules about when you work as long as you do your job. No 9 am to 6 pm. Do what works for YOU!
- We have minimal bureaucracy and high autonomy. At RunRepeat, you OWN your work. There are no deadlines other than those you set yourself.
- Barely any meetings.
- Run in and test a huge variety of shoes from our lab.
- This is a unique opportunity for the right person. It's a role that can expand based on skills and performance.
- We're a small team of 12 people who have been at RunRepeat for 6.7 years on average - apparently it's not so bad here after all. In the lab in Portugal, you will have three colleagues. The rest of the team is remote, working from around Europe. We meet once a year in a cool villa by the sea or in the mountains somewhere in Europe, and do fun things together - all paid for by the company.
The ideal candidate
If you meet the criteria below, you could be an EXCELLENT candidate for the job. Few people have this combination of qualifications in Portugal.
- An avid runner. Running is a significant part of who you are. Maybe you've run a marathon or an ultra, or perhaps you're a track-and-field athlete.
- English fluency. You can write and speak English fluently at C1 level or higher.
- Knows running shoes well or has experience in the footwear industry.
Please apply only if you meet the criteria above. I'm not looking for someone "willing to learn".
Salary
This is a full-time job with standard Portuguese benefits.
The appropriate salary varies significantly depending on what you bring to the table. Let me illustrate with an example:
- Candidate 1: a passionate runner who follows shoe reviews on YouTube.
- Candidate 2: a mechanical engineer with 10 years of running shoe industry experience.
Both candidates fit like a glove. We offer a competitive salary based on your experience, skills and fit for the role. We often work with people who come from completely different fields and are looking for a more exciting opportunity.
How to apply
Send your application to me at jens@runrepeat.com with the subject line "Content creator Aveiro" and include at least:
(1) A written response covering:
- Your running background
- Your interest in running shoes, if any
- Relevant work experience, if any (not required)
(2) A short video about yourself, who you are outside of work, and why this particular job excites you. Please do not edit or perfect the video. As long as I can see and hear you, we're good.
I'll hire as soon as I find the right candidate - you’d better send your application sooner rather than later. I'm very much looking forward to hearing from you.
All the best,
Jens Jakob Andersen
