Adidas Busenitz RX History

In the early 90s, Adidas launched the Skateboarding Footwear line, in collaboration with various skateboarders all around the world. The Three Stripes re-launched it in the mid-2000 and re-named it as the Adidas Skateboarding. This line consists of solid elite skaters, namely, Mark Gonzalez, Tim O’Connor, Lucas Puig, Mark Suciu and Dennis Busenitz. They usually draw inspiration from the impressive library of Adidas and reimagine it to suit the skateboarding demands.

Meanwhile, a German skateboarder named Dennis Busenitz started to establish his mark in the world of skateboarders. Adidas added him to their SB line and commissioned him to design and conceptualize a kick that matches his skateboarding style. He took inspiration from his favorite soccer cleat Copa Mundial and turned it into skate-ready footwear.

In 2016, the Three Stripes launched the “10 Years Anniversary” pack to commemorate the decade-long relationship with Busenitz. Seemingly, there is no sign anywhere that Busenitz will stop in creating footwear for hardcore skaters. In the middle of 2017, Adidas unveils the Adidas Busenitz RX that features a minimalist design but with an enhanced lock-in fit and durability.

Adidas Busenitz RX Style

The low-top Adidas Busenitz RX is made with tonal pig suede upper sits on top of a crisp midsole. This pair has the iconic Busenitz tongue, but Adidas streamlined it to keep up with the overall upgraded profile. The gold-foil typescript on the side adds a luxe finish to this simple shoe. The panels and the stitching were also reduced to come up with a nearly seamless construction.

The tonal and uncomplicated design of Busenitz RX further enhances its versatility. Many wearers can be seen wearing this kick with virtually any ensemble. Jeans, skinnies, activewear, joggers and even shorts will look notable with this sneaker, while some pair this with their crisp trousers for an edgy look.

Fit & Sizing

The Adidas Busenitz RX is available in men’s sizes from 4 to 14 in medium width. This shoe runs true to size. It uses a tonal lace-up closure with flat laces for a personalized, secure fit.

Notable Features

The perforated stripes are one of the remarkable features of the Adidas Busenitz RX. Instead of representing the iconic 3-Stripe using solid materials, Adidas opted to use holes that outline the three stripes. This update not only enhances the uncomplicated look, but it also avoids the event when the stripe rips off when doing board tricks.

Additional Info

  • The Adidas Busenitz RX contains a cat-tongue lining that provides a lock-in fit.
  • The external heel piece adds durability and serves as an additional medial stabilizer.
  • It features a cupsole that was borrowed from the classic Spezial that works as an added comfort and protection.
  • The pig suede upper is reinforced with stitching details.
  • The elastic band found on the sides of the tongue holds the tongue in place even during rigorous activities.
  • It features the gold-foil Busenitz typescript on the side.
  • The Busenitz RX uses the cupsole which is considered more durable than the vulcanized sole. However, a cupsole is considered less flexible and doesn’t give good board feel. The cupsole is composed of single rubber layer, supported with glue and later on stitched to the upper.
  • The low-top profile of the Adidas Busenitz RX allows its wearers to maximize the movement on the ankle area.
