Adidas Prada Superstar: Showcasing heritage and technology
First introduced in the 60s as basketball footwear, the Adidas Superstar quickly gained popularity because of its style and comfort. Fifty years after it was unveiled, this classic piece has undergone countless reinterpretations by music artists, athletes, retailers, and many more.
In 2019, Adidas announced its partnership with one of the most luxurious and renowned Italian fashion brands, Prada. Their first drop is the Adidas x Prada Superstar that flaunts the combination of the artistry of Prada and the sports heritage of Adidas. It comes with a Prada bowling bag and displays the OG hue with twinning Prada and Trefoil logos.
After a year, Prada and Adidas dropped their second collab installment. This long-awaited sequel ditched the bowling bag and presented the kicks in three more colorways - triple black, all white, and chrome silver and white.
Why Prada x Adidas Superstar costs an arm and a leg?
Aside from using premium and luxurious materials, Prada is known for its meticulous manufacturing process. This kick is almost entirely handmade by Prada employees. They painstakingly took 100 hand-guided techniques to finish a pair of Prada x Adidas Superstar. Each employee took high care of each piece from the assembly lineup until the packaging.
Adidas Superstar vs Adidas x Prada Superstar
It is a tad hard to distinguish the classic Adidas Superstar from the Adidas x Prada Superstar because of its almost identical features. Here are some of the differences we found between these two nearly identical sneakers:
Leather: The Prada version is made of premium soft, shiny leather that is considered more durable than the regular leather used on the classic version.
Lining and insole: Prada's Superstar has a soft buttery leather lining and insole that provide a plush and luxurious feel. Meanwhile, the Adidas Superstar has the usual fabric lining and insole that adds protection and absorbs moisture from the feet.
Tongue: Prada's variation has a thinly padded tongue for a sleek look, unlike the well-cushioned classic Superstar's tongue that delivers better protection.
Branding: The branding on the side of the classic iteration flaunts the metallic Superstar, while Prada displays the muted Prada.
Shell-toe: The shell-toe on the Prada version is less rough, while the original version is rough and has visible cross marks.
