Size and fit

The Adidas Mallison SPZL is available in men’s sizes which range from 5 to 13. The fit is generally true to size for most users based on a number of reviews.

Adidas Mallison SPZL Style

The Mallison SPZL is a versatile low top that would be effortless to match with your casual or semi-casual outfits. Pair it up with shorts or jeans and a simple tee for a lazy weekend afternoon or dress it up with slim indigo jeans or chinos with an Oxford long-sleeved shirt for a smarter ensemble.

Notable Features

The Adidas Mallison SPZL may not have any of the current Adidas technologies like most of their new releases, but this classic silhouette more than makes up for it with its premium materials and the masterly way it is made. The solid and high-quality make of the shoe combined with the arresting color schemes make this shoe a standout.

Adidas Mallison SPZL History

The force behind the Adidas SPZL line is Gary Aspden, a keen collector of Adidas footwear. The idea behind the collection arose from Gary’s initiative of showcasing Adidas’ rich shoe history through an East London exhibition that would feature rare and vintage models. This 2013 exhibit turned out to be a huge success and spurred the creation of a brand new line based on the silhouettes and other details of heritage shoes.

The first shoes from the Spezial collection came out in 2014, featuring four different models. 2015 saw a bigger crop of new silhouettes amounting to a total of 13, 2016 had 10, and in 2017’s Spring Summer release, the Mallison SPZL came out along with several others as part of two waves.

The Mallison SPZL’s name was given as a tribute to Airdrie fundraiser, Mark Allison, and his incredible efforts in raising money for the Pancreatic Society of Scotland and awareness of the disease.

The shoe was largely inspired by the Adidas AS 700 which was mostly released in the Japanese market and in some parts of Europe in the 80s. The original shoes were either manufactured in Yugoslavia or Austria and featured the same sole as the Gazelle Indoors but with more striking color combinations. Adidas borrowed classic details from the AS 700 but slightly modified the shape, updated it with a new colorway, and added an embossed pattern on the shoe’s tongue.

Additional Info

  • The shoe features a soft suede upper, molded tongue, and leather lining.
  • The outsole has a Trefoil tread pattern.
  • Stripes, heel tab, and sole in contrasting color to the upper’s hue.
