Adidas Flashback History
Adolf Dassler, an avid soccer player, invented shoes with spikes for the track and field in 1920. Four years later, together with his brother, he established his shoe business and named it Gebruder Dassler OHG. They began to achieve recognition globally during the 1928 Olympics because of their spiked shoes.
1948 was not a good year for the Dassler brothers. Because of politics, war and their wives, they’ve come away and resolved to separate. Adi registered his company as Adidas, while his brother set up another company across the river and registered it as Puma.
Adi Dassler still continued to develop training shoes made from the surplus tent canvas and fuel tank rubber after the lean war years. In 1949, he used the 3-Stripe side strips to give support to the running shoe industry.
Dassler was tagged as the father of the modern running shoe. He particularly hand-forged shoes that were specifically designed for certain running distances. It was the first in the world that a shoe was precisely conceived for sprinters and long-distance runners. In the 1969 Olympics, Jesse Owens won 4 gold medals wearing Adidas’ track shoes. That event further propelled the fame of the Adidas all around the world.
In 1978, Dassler was able to patent over 700 athletic products before his death. In the same year, he was instated into the American Sporting Goods Industry Hall of Fame and named as one of the initiators of the contemporary sporting goods industry. In the 70s, Adidas held the leading status in the athletic brands sold in the United States. During the ”Fight of the Century” match in 1971, Muhammad Ali and Joe Frazier were both wearing Adidas boxing shoes.
The Originals line and the Adidas Flashback
Adidas formed the Adidas Originals in 1991 as its sub-brand and is also known as the Heritage Line. This sub-brand was launched with the slogan “Once Innovative, Now Classic, Always Authentic.” It aims to showcase the 30 years of sports heritage in a modern way. They restore the cutting-edge performance shoe to stylish lifestyle footwear. The Originals reinterpret the classic designs to create fashionable premium products. In 2008, Adidas Originals held a massive campaign to promote the label.
Adidas Originals is in the zone of reviving several Adidas sneakers from its archive of the 70s running sneaker. The Adidas Flashback sneaker was launched in 2016 that was inspired by the running kick called Adidas Dragon from the 70s that featured the jagged rubber outsole. The brand modernized it and unveiled the Flashback that showcases a modern look dressed with a breathable and light mesh upper. Adidas added suede on the upper to add swag style. The thick midsole and the serrated sole, also, give a street-savvy visual statement.
To keep the Flashback noteworthy to the contemporary market, Three Stripes unveiled several variations of the Flashback.
Adidas Flashback Mid
For Fall of 2017, Adidas modified the Flashback silhouette into Mid that displays an upper made of woven material added with suede details on the heel counter, the iconic 3-Striped logo on the side, and the ridged rubber outsole.
