Reebok Zoku Runner Ultraknit IS History
Zoku hails its meaning from a Chinese-originated Japanese vocabulary which is defined as someone belonging to a tribe or clan. Since the 1950s, these Nihongo-speaking natives have been coining terms for categorical clusters in their society who share the same interest. Examples of these are the Karasu zoku that translates as crow "tribe" mainly because members of the group wore black apparel and accessories. Groups like bara zoku and Hotaru zoku have been emerging in the Japanese subculture scene giving more creativity to the trend.
When speaking of trend-setting and cult followings, the word Zoku should not be missed when placing it unto clothing wear. Reebok brilliantly adapted the term into their first Ultraknit shoe that broke ground in the first quarter of 2017. The Reebok Zoku Runner, one of the many Ultraknit iterations to come, premiered Reeboks knit technology that had reportedly been cooking in their innovative kitchen for more than a year.
The Reebok Zoku Runner Ultraknit borrowed elements from past designs that are timeless. The vamp overlay of the Aztec was refurbished into a TPU cage that honors the original vector logo resembling flight.
To complete the classic image, Reebok incorporated the window box obtained from the Classic Leather that discards the Reebok branding and the Union Jack to stow away from overbranding the silhouette. Lastly, a heel counter imitates the heel cage of the Dual Pump Runner in 1991 adds support for the Ultraknit upper.
To spearhead the introduction of the Zoku Runner, Reebok collaborated with Future that includes a concert in London formally presenting the brand to the public. Since its release, several knit patterns were seen in different colorways including the Multi, IS, ISM, HTRD and more.
Reebok Zoku Runner Ultraknit IS Style
The tonal colorways of the low top sneaker made it exceptional to be partnered with a multitude of clothing options also with the help of its smooth and sharp form. Women can fashionably sport the shoe in dresses and skinny pants as well.
One feature that adds grandeur to the Zoku model is the speckling effect on its midsole. The classic window box at the laterals differs with each colorway as exhibited by the neon-colored ones which display a black tainted window box. Tonal colored ones reveal a rectangular patch with the same hue as the upper.
Fit & Sizing
The Reebok Zoku Runner Ultraknit IS is constructed in a socklike manner so that wearers would slip on their feet onto the shoes. The Ultraknit is supported by a heel counter at the back as well as a TPU lace overlay which also secures the right snug preferred by users.
Available for men and women, the sneaker is sold in a standard medium width which runs true to size. Men can purchase the sneaker in a size range from 4 to 13 while women's are from 6 to 10.
The Zoku Runner is one of the designs that accommodate contemporary technologies as well as old ones. The Zoku Runner was the coveted model to acquire the initial release of the Ultraknit upper and was complemented by the resurfacing DMX midsole, a sole that was utilized in the early basketball designs of Reebok footwear.
In the Zoku Runner Ultknit IS version, a heel tab displays a crisscross pattern which is slightly reflective of light. The IS iteration is also known to be a full monochromatic shoe up to its sole, compared to the Multi and the HTRD. Though tonal, the midsole still reveals a speckle effect.
- DMX is an acronym for Dynamic Motion X which is composed of three separate cushioning elements. These three are the Max, the Shear, and the Foam which all cooperate to produce a smooth stride.
- The Zoku Runner was the first Reebok shoe design that was partnered with an Ultraknit upper, which marks the company's penetration into the knitted upper trend.
- A simple high abrasion rubber design can be seen at the bottom of the sneaker's sole for grip and traction.
- The Ultraknit was constructed as one piece and was then connected to the midsole.
- An original Starcrest Reebok logo is displayed on the tongue patch.
