Who should buy
In our view, the La Sportiva Prodigio 2 is an excellent match for runners who:
- Prefer a pronounced rocker that delivers a smooth, forward-rolling ride.
- Spend most of their time on easy trails and enjoy picking up the pace.
- Prioritize stability and don't mind a more guided, less adaptable ride.
- Want a shoe that handles gravel, dirt roads, and occasional stretches of pavement.

Who should NOT buy
The Prodigio 2's aggressive rocker can feel awkward for runners who prefer a more adaptable and flexible trail shoe. If that's your case, we recommend the Nike ACG Zegama Trail instead, as it offers a more natural-feeling ride while offering solid energy return and a similar price tag.
We also believe that the Prodigio 2's weight gain could be a deal-breaker for some runners. If you're looking for a lighter underfoot feel, we suggest checking out the HOKA Challenger 8 or Nike Kiger 10 instead.

Amortiguación
Shock absorption
One thing we noticed during our runs is that the Prodigio 2 doesn't follow the maximalist trend that has taken over trail running in the last few years. Instead, La Sportiva has focused on delivering a balanced ride, with enough cushioning for long distances while maintaining a close connection to the terrain.
Our lab results support that approach, with 119 SA in the heel and 94 SA in the forefoot, both slightly below average.

| Prodigio 2 | 119 SA |

Energy return
We were pleasantly surprised by the energy return of La Sportiva's XFlow midsole.
The shoe comes with an impressive 68.1% energy return in the forefoot, significantly exceeding the average. However, the heel returned a more modest 59.0%, and it's clear that forefoot strikers will get the most out of this supercritical EVA formulation.

Altura de la suela en la zona del talón
La Sportiva advertises a heel stack height of 34 mm, but our calipers revealed a noticeably lower measurement of 31.3 mm.

In our opinion, this makes the Prodigio 2 better suited for runners who appreciate ground feel and predictable cushioning rather than an ultra-protective or maximalist experience.

| Prodigio 2 | 31.3 mm |
| Media | 33.1 mm |
Altura de la suela en el antepié
A similar difference appeared in the forefoot, where we measured just 24.5 mm instead of the advertised 28 mm.

| Prodigio 2 | 24.5 mm |
| Media | 25.8 mm |
Drop
Despite the differences we found in both stack height measurements, La Sportiva has stayed remarkably close to its advertised 6 mm drop.
We recorded 6.8 mm, which we believe falls within the sweet spot for trail shoes designed to accommodate all footstrikes. In our experience, this moderate drop delivers a natural-feeling ride without forcing runners into an aggressive position.

Dureza de la mediasuela
As we already mentioned, La Sportiva uses its nitrogen-infused XFlow supercritical EVA foam in the Prodigio 2, and we believe the brand made a sensible choice by prioritizing balance over extreme softness.
Our Asker C durometer recorded 37.9 AC, almost identical to the current average. This confirms that the Prodigio 2 sits right in the middle of the softness spectrum, with neither a marshmallow-like sensation nor an excessively harsh ride.
And another positive surprise came after our freezer test. The foam became only 14% firmer, a better-than-average result that confirms its ability to maintain a more consistent feel when temperatures drop... despite being an EVA-based foam!

| Prodigio 2 | 37.9 AC |
| Media | 38.3 AC |
Rocker
The first-gen La Sportiva Prodigio surprised us with its aggressive rocker, and version 2 confirms that the Italian brand is fully committed to this approach. We found an extreme heel-to-toe curvature that encourages runners to pick up the pace.
However, we believe this modern geometry may alienate more traditional trail runners who prefer a flatter, more natural ride, and we think it can be a real deal-breaker.

Placa
The Prodigio 2 doesn't feature a carbon-fiber propulsion plate, which makes sense given its focus on everyday trail running rather than outright racing performance.
However, La Sportiva includes its Flow Film rock protection layer, a nylon-based structure reinforced with polyurethane that sits between the midsole and outsole, and that is visible through the small midfoot cutout.

Anchura / Ajuste
Our gel mold measured 95.6 mm at the widest point, almost identical to the current average.
Consequently, we believe the Prodigio 2 should work nicely for runners with medium-width feet, offering enough space for natural foot movement while maintaining the secure fit needed for technical trails.

Anchura de la parte delantera
We noticed that its toebox still tapers toward the front.
Our measurements confirmed this, with a width of 72.9 mm. It's not an extremely narrow result, but runners with square-shaped feet or those who need extra toe splay may find the front less forgiving than the wider midfoot area initially suggests.

Altura de la parte delantera
Vertical toe space is another area where the Prodigio 2 falls slightly short of average with a result of 25.4 mm.
We don't consider this an extremely restrictive design, but the reduced overhead clearance may become noticeable for runners with high-volume toes or those who experience significant foot swelling during long-distance, high-temperature efforts.

Tracción / Agarre
Traction test
Traction is one of the features we were most eager to test, especially because the Prodigio 2 uses La Sportiva's FriXion Red outsole, which combines different rubber compounds to improve grip.
Our SATRA TM144 traction test returned an impressive coefficient of 0.87, comfortably exceeding the average. We believe this is one of the Prodigio 2's biggest strengths, although you should keep in mind that wet roots, slippery rocks, and deep mud present very different challenges where lug depth and outsole design plays a major role. Therefore, let's take a closer look at that next.

Profundidad del dibujo de la suela
La Sportiva claims that the Prodigio 2 features 4 mm lugs, an increase over the original version. However, our calipers told a different story.

We measured just 3.2 mm, noticeably below the advertised figure and slightly shallower than the first version. While this makes the outsole less aggressive than the specs suggest, we believe these lugs are an excellent match for compact trails, gravel, and hard-packed dirt.
On the other hand, deep mud and loose terrain aren't where we'd expect this outsole to shine. However, given the heavily-rockered midsole, we suspect La Sportiva wasn't targeting those technical conditions anyway.

| Prodigio 2 | 3.2 mm |
| Media | 3.5 mm |
Diseño de la suela exterior
Instead of relying on oversized, ultra-aggressive lugs, the brand opted for a more versatile design featuring a mix of C-shaped lugs, along with generous rubber coverage. We also noticed the exposed midfoot section, which helps reduce a bit of weight without sacrificing grip in key contact areas.
The FriXion Red outsole is another interesting feature, combining grippier (red) rubber in the forefoot with a more durability-focused (yellow) compound toward the heel.

Flexibilidad / Rigidez
Considering the Prodigio 2's moderate stack height and lack of a carbon plate, we expected a reasonably flexible shoe. However, the Flow Film rock protection layer and substantial outsole construction add some resistance to bending.
Our 30-degree bending test confirmed this, requiring 17.1N of force.

| Prodigio 2 | 17.1N |
| Media | 14.8N |
Peso
La Sportiva has made the Prodigio 2 a more accommodating and protective shoe than its predecessor, so we were curious to see whether those changes would translate into excessive weight.
Unfortunately, our scale returned a result of 9.9 oz (281g), slightly heavier than the 9.6 oz (271g) recorded by its predecessor. This time, the Prodigio 2 has taken a small but disappointing step in the wrong direction.

| Prodigio 2 | 9.9 oz (281g) |
| Media | 10.1 oz (285g) |
Estabilidad
Prueba de estabilidad lateral
We believe stability is one of the Prodigio 2's strongest qualities, and that became apparent when examining its construction. La Sportiva has combined a moderate stack height with raised midsole sidewalls, a secure midfoot wrapping system, and a rockered ride that guides you in straight line.
However, this stability comes with a clear limitation, as it's only suited for the shoe's intended use on easy trails and gravel roads. Once you venture into more technical terrain, we wouldn't consider it a particularly stable option.
Rigidez torsional
One of the reasons the Prodigio 2 feels so structured is its resistance to twisting, which we measured using our torsional rigidity test.
Our machine recorded 18.3 Nm, clearly exceeding the average. We believe this high rigidity helps the shoe maintain its shape on uneven terrain, but those who prefer a highly-flexible trail shoe will find it somewhat restrictive.

| Prodigio 2 | 18.3 Nm |
| Media | 15.8 Nm |
Rigidez del contrafuerte del talón
La Sportiva clearly prioritized rearfoot security in the Prodigio 2, and we immediately noticed how structured the heel counter feels. Our manual assessment confirmed this impression with a high score of 4/5, placing it above average for trail shoes.
We believe this firm heel structure works well to stabilize the heel, where keeping the rearfoot securely positioned matters, although runners sensitive to pressure around the Achilles area may prefer a more forgiving design.

Anchura de la mediasuela - antepié
Despite the Prodigio 2's stability-focused construction, La Sportiva hasn't gone overboard with its platform width.
Our calipers recorded 115.3 mm in the forefoot, just slightly wider than the average.

| Prodigio 2 | 115.3 mm |
| Media | 114.3 mm |
Anchura de la mediasuela - talón
The same philosophy extends to the heel, where we measured a width of 92.2 mm.
Although this obviously isn't an exceptionally wide platform, we believe the combination of its moderate width, firm heel counter, and supportive midsole sidewalls should provide enough rearfoot security for most neutral runners.

Durabilidad
Durabilidad de la parte delantera
We were delighted to discover that La Sportiva hasn't sacrificed upper durability in pursuit of a more comfortable fit, as the shoe achieved a 4/5 in this test.
The Prodigio 2 features a reinforced engineered mesh with protective overlays, and we expected this construction to hold up nicely against abrasion.

Durabilidad del acolchado del talón
After the impressive performance of the toebox, we turned our attention to the heel padding, an area that often suffers from repeated friction during long trail runs.
This time, the Prodigio 2 delivered a more ordinary result. Our Dremel test earned it a 3/5, very close to the category average.
| Prodigio 2 | 3 |
| Media | 3.1 |
Durabilidad de la suela
As we already explained, La Sportiva's FriXion Red outsole uses a combination of rubber compounds rather than a single uniform formulation. The idea is to provide additional grip in the forefoot while maintaining durability in the heel.
Fortunately, the Prodigio 2 delivered a good result in our Dremel test, with a rubber indentation of just 0.9 mm.
| Prodigio 2 | 0.9 mm |
| Media | 0.9 mm |
Grosor de la suela
The FriXion outsole measures just 1.5 mm thick, which may seem less than ideal at first.

However, considering that the shoe already features an extra-protective rock plate, we believe this is a thoughtful design choice that avoids unnecessary rubber underfoot.

Grosor de la plantilla
We measured 4.1 mm with our calipers here, slightly below the average. And this makes sense given the shoe's moderate cushioning philosophy, right?

Plantilla extraíble
La Sportiva uses a removable insole, but swapping it out means losing the forefoot perforations designed to enhance airflow.

Elementos reflectantes
We were pleased to find reflective elements on the Prodigio 2's heel. They are a useful addition for runners who regularly head out before sunrise or return from the trails after sunset.

Acolchado de la lengüeta
The Prodigio 2 features a similar lacing system to its predecessor, although La Sportiva has added not one but two loops to the tongue to help keep it centered.

One feature that immediately caught our attention was the generously padded tongue. La Sportiva has clearly made comfort around the instep a priority, increasing the tongue thickness from 5.5 mm in v1 to a whopping 9.4 mm in this second iteration. However, this extra-plush cushioning comes at the expense of added weight, as we proved before.

| Prodigio 2 | 9.4 mm |
| Media | 6.4 mm |
Lengüeta: tipo de refuerzo
We were happy to discover that the Prodigio 2 features a fully gusseted tongue, attached to both sides of the upper.
This is exactly the kind of feature we appreciate in a trail running shoe, as it helps keep the tongue centered while reducing the chance of dirt and small stones entering through the sides. Furthermore, it contributes to the secure midfoot fit that La Sportiva has usually prioritized throughout this design.

Tirador del talón
While lacking a pull tab it's hardly a dealbreaker, a simple loop would make the Prodigio 2 easier to put on.

Precio
Unfortunately, La Sportiva has pushed the price even higher with this second generation. At €170, the Prodigio 2 costs 10% more than its predecessor and makes it a bit less appealing in terms of value.
