Who should buy
After testing the Hylo Athletics Axis, we believe it is a good option for:
- Runners who want a well-built stability shoe from a brand outside the mainstream choices.
- Those with mild support needs who want extra stability without harsh or intrusive elements.
- People looking for a stable shoe that works for daily wear, easy runs, and features sustainable materials.

Who should NOT buy
We believe the Hylo Athletics Axis is not the best choice for runners who need a roomy toebox. In our lab tests, the tapered front was definitely restrictive and that can be an issue. Based on our lab data, the Altra Experience Form or the Adidas Supernova Solution offer more real estate in the forefoot.
We also think the Axis can feel heavy underfoot if you are used to lightweight daily trainers. If that's a potential issue, discard this shoe and go for the HOKA Arahi 8.

Amortiguación
Shock absorption
We found that the Hylo Athletics Axis delivers slightly less shock absorption than expected in the heel, measuring 111 SA, which falls just below the current lab average. On the other hand, the forefoot reached 107 SA, a result that feels much closer to what we expected. Still, both values provide enough protection for daily runs and easy jogs.

Energy return
Energy return is solid for a daily trainer and probably more than enough for casual runners. That said, we expected a slightly higher result from this supercritical foam given the Axis’s high retail price, which sits one or two steps above many daily trainers like the ASICS Novablast 5.
The fact that the foam is 50% bio-based may play a role in its energy return, as we have found in the lab that sustainable foams often deliver less bounce than non-sustainable materials.

Altura de la suela en la zona del talón
With 37.6 mm of stack height in the heel, runners who enjoy plenty of foam underfoot while walking or running will feel right at home in the Axis. That is serious protection and a sensible balance, as going any higher would likely feel excessive for everyday use.

| Axis | 37.6 mm |
| Media | 34.8 mm |
Altura de la suela en el antepié
The forefoot also offers a generous amount of foam, coming close to the 30 mm mark at 28.2 mm. In our view, this again strikes a good balance between comfort and reliability for daily use, especially for a running shoe launching in 2026.

| Axis | 28.2 mm |
| Media | 26.2 mm |
Drop
The drop sits on the higher side at 9.4 mm. This may feel a bit high for forefoot strikers, but it is a safe and familiar setup for midfoot and heel strikers.
It is also a small deviation from the 8 mm stated by Hylo Athletics. We often make the same point here: if you grab a measuring tape and see how small 1.4 mm really is, the difference becomes easy to put into perspective.

Suavidad de la mediasuela
The Hylo Athletics Axis features the new Hyperbolt+ foam, which felt good during our runs. It does not deliver the explosive bounce of superfoams like the Adidas Adizero EVO SL, but it provides a solid and stable feel for daily mileage.
In terms of softness, we found it slightly firmer than the current lab average at 23.1 HA, yet far from harsh, making it a smart choice for runners who value stability over plush cushioning while still avoiding a brick-like ride.

Rocker
From the side, the Axis clearly looks like a modern running shoe, with a pronounced rocker that is most noticeable at the heel. Paired with the high drop, it is clear to us that this design targets heel-first runners, as the curvature in that area helps transitions feel smoother and more natural.
This also means the shoe is not a great choice for runners who prefer a flatter, less curved feel for daily runs or walking. If that sounds like you, the market is getting smaller, but there are still interesting options with a more classic midsole shape, such as the On Cloudrunner 2.

Anchura / Ajuste
To determine the exact fit of the Hylo Athletics Axis, we created a gel mold of the shoe’s interior. After letting it solidify in our fridge and taking a short break from testing, we got back to work and analyzed the results.
The first reading measured 95.4 mm. This sits right in the average range, something we love to call the Pareto Fit, as it aims to accommodate at least 80% of runners.

Anchura de la parte delantera
However, we guess that Vilfredo Pareto leaves the lab here. We measured just 69.2 mm, making the Axis a better option for runners who prefer a snug and secure feel up front.

| Axis | 69.2 mm |

Altura de la parte delantera
That snug feeling was confirmed in our final toebox measurement.
At just 24.5 mm, there is slightly less vertical room than in many shoes, although we never found it uncomfortable thanks to the pleasant and forgiving upper material.

Tracción / Agarre
Traction test
Traction was not off the charts, but it was clearly solid. The 0.56 result in our lab testing delivers dependable grip in both dry conditions and heavy rain, making the Axis a good option for runners who want one shoe and do not want a separate choice for wet days.

Diseño de la suela exterior
The outsole uses exposed foam as the base, shaped into sweeping, wave-like ribs from heel to toe. Deep grooves create clear segmentation, with narrow oval cutouts embedded along the central channels.

We love small details, and this shoe includes a standout one. The engraved "RUN LIKE THE WORLDS DEPENDS ON IT" text runs along the outsole, integrated into the foam surface and aligned with the curved channels for a clean, intentional look.

Flexibilidad / Rigidez
The Hylo Athletics Axis is on the stiffer side, scoring 20.2N in our 30-degree bend test. This may put off runners who prefer highly-flexible daily trainers.
However, in recent years, stiffer designs have become more common as higher-stack constructions have taken over the market, so you may be okay with this result.

Peso
For us, the biggest downside of the Hylo Athletics Axis is its high weight. At 11.0 oz (312g) on our scale, it feels clearly heavier than most main rivals. This is something that becomes hard to ignore if weight matters to you.

Transpirabilidad
It is no secret that Hylo Athletics prices the Axis slightly higher than most brands in the daily trainer category, but that extra cost brings clear benefits. One of the biggest is the upper.
Compared to most competitors, the upper feels a step above in both materials and build quality. Ventilation also impressed us, earning a strong 4/5 score in our breathability test.
Cutting the shoe in half and shining light through it may seem like a simple test, but it reveals a lot. In this case, it shows a well-planned structure with plenty of airflow in the forefoot and additional ventilation through the midfoot.

Instead of using standard round ventilation holes, Hylo Athletics went with a more refined approach.

Overall, the upper stands out as one of the strongest parts of the Axis. It's well ventilated, solid in construction, and carefully built from top to bottom.

Estabilidad
Prueba de estabilidad lateral
Hylo designed this shoe to compete in the mild stability category of daily trainers, and we think they got it right. It never feels intrusive like a true stability shoe, yet it provides noticeably more support than a neutral daily trainer thanks to its wide midsole and multiple upper reinforcements.
Rigidez torsional
The Axis is extremely rigid and very hard to twist, even more than we expected, earning a 5/5 score. While it's true that is a stability-focused shoe, this level of stiffness is something you should definitely know.
This video also highlights how neatly Hylo integrates its signature bolt into the shoe’s design, using it as a structural element to add stability in both the heel and midfoot. Really well done, guys.
| Axis | 5 |

Rigidez del contrafuerte del talón
On the flip side, the heel counter feels similar to what we see in neutral running shoes, earning a 3/5. That seems like a smart choice, as the heel is already very stable, so there is little reason to push support even further.

Anchura de la mediasuela - antepié
Nearly all modern stability shoes follow the same design approach, using a wider platform in the forefoot, midfoot, and heel. The Axis is no exception to this trend.
At 122.2 mm in the forefoot, the numbers are clearly substantial. This wide base adds a lot of stability, as basic physics applies: a larger surface leads to a more stable landing. That said, runners who dislike this modern, wide-platform feel should take note.

Anchura de la mediasuela - talón
The heel is also noticeably wider than most shoes at 97.6 mm. Combined with the firmer foam feel, this wide platform helps explain why the shoe feels especially stable for rearfoot strikers.

Durabilidad
Durabilidad de la parte delantera
The upper feels great to the touch and the build quality is excellent, but durability is not one of its strong points. In fact, it scored just 1/5 in our test.
That said, Hylo Athletics added a generous toe bumper for a road shoe, which at least offers some protection against scuffs and accidental stone kicks.
| Axis | 1 |

Durabilidad del acolchado del talón
The heel padding performed much better and brought things back to the positive side. It scored it 4/5, which helps lift the overall durability results.

Durabilidad de la suela
Unfortunately, the outsole durability was below expectations. While 1.4 mm of wear is not a deal-breaker, it is slightly worse than we anticipated and could limit the shoe’s overall lifespan.
| Axis | 1.4 mm |

Grosor de la suela
At just 2.8 mm, the rubber is not very thick, but it seems clear that Hylo Athletics did not want to overdo it, as more rubber would have added weight and made the ride even firmer.

Plantilla extraíble
If the toebox feels a bit tight or the upper sits too low on your toes, one possible solution is to remove the insole and replace it with a thinner one. This can free up some useful extra space.

We carried out a full 360-degree inspection looking for reflective elements, but it seems they will have to wait for a future version.

Acolchado de la lengüeta
The eyelet chain of the Hylo Athletics Axis is very simple, and we believe that works in its favor. There is no need to complicate things or to prove anything here for being a higher-priced model, as punched eyelets reinforced with a TPU piece are a proven solution that has worked well across hundreds of models.

We also checked the tongue thickness and measured a plush 8.2 mm of soft padding. This is more than enough for daily runs or even casual wear, delivering a very comfortable step-in feel.

Lengüeta: tipo de refuerzo
The tongue uses a well-executed semi-gusseted design that improves lockdown and keeps the midfoot securely in place.

Precio
The Hylo Athletics Axis clearly targets the higher end of the stability shoe market and does not aim to attract runners looking for a budget-friendly option. Do we think it is fairly priced? For us, it sits right on the edge, especially since durability raised some concerns during our testing.
That said, the overall quality is clearly above what you get in a regular daily trainer, and the sustainable materials also help explain the higher cost. Still, in our view, the price remains borderline and may be hard to justify for some runners.

Tirador del talón
The heel features a clean and minimal design that we really liked. That said, runners who rely on finger-loop heel tabs will notice that this detail is missing.
