The New Balance 847 v3 is designed to provide users with long-lasting comfort during long walks. Like its predecessors, it uses several motion control technologies that aim to deliver a steady platform. In between the midsole and the outsole is the Rollbar posting system which ensures that the foot does not excessively roll in or out while walking. The polyurethane (PU) Strobel board enhances the cushioning provided by the ABZORB midsole.
The underside of the New Balance 847 v3 is lined with Ndurance, a proprietary rubber that is designed to endure the abrasion associated with daily use for long-lasting durability. It is also non-marking, so it does not leave scuff marks on polished floors.
The forefoot section features flex grooves that promote proper foot flexion. The back of the shoe is beveled for softer heel landing and smoother heel-to-toe transition. The tread pattern enhances the traction of the Ndurance rubber on different surfaces.
The New Balance 847 v3 employs a full-length ABZORB midsole. This foam-based cushioning platform disperses the force from the point of impact to reduce the shock felt by the foot and the leg. Atop the midsole is the PU Strobel board which enhances the shock-absorbing properties of the sole unit for better comfort during prolonged use.
At the heel section, in between the midsole and the outsole, is the Rollbar posting system. It has a molded plate under the heel that connects the medial and lateral posts to prevent the unwanted rearfoot movement. This structure ensures that overpronation and supination are controlled.
A very similar platform construction can also be found in the New Balance 928 v3 motion control walker.
The New Balance 847 v3 uses mesh in most parts of the upper. The breathable fabric keeps the inside of the footwear ventilated. Synthetic overlays give the shoe its structure. They reinforce the toe box, the vamp, the side panels and the heel, protecting these areas from abrasion.
The lacing system integrates with the medial and lateral side panels. This kind of setup enhances the lateral support offered by the trainer when the laces are tightened. The padded tongue is also covered with mesh which helps in maintaining the freshness of the foot chamber, while at the same time prevents the laces from irritating the instep.
The Ortholite foam is used in the collar of this model. This technology is mostly used for insoles because it is lightweight, breathable and durable, and has anti-microbial properties to keep odor-causing microorganisms at bay. In this footgear, the Ortholite serves as a support structure for the ankle and stops the heel from slipping out while the user is in motion.
