Overview of this review
Size and fit
The Puma x XO Terrains sneaker runs in men’s sizes only. Women should order 1.5 sizes down from their usual size to get an equivalent fit. The shoe is kept snug by a regular lacing system with padded collar and tongue. The low-top shoe has a leather lining in the interior while the cushioned insoles add to the comfy internal conditions.
Puma x XO Terrains Style
Clean lines, crisp look, supple leather, and comfy interiors are what the Puma x XO Terrains promises. And this is clearly depicted in the overall look of this low-top sneaker. The Weeknd fans wanting to style this beautifully executed collaboration may opt for contrasting colors in their tops and bottoms to complement the all-black look of the shoe.
For those looking for an alternative colorway, the Puma x XO Terrains are also offered in pebble colorway with a black sole and a beige or pale brown upper. Both colorways are easily paired with street style clothing because of their neutral and monochromatic tones.
Men wanting to style the Puma x XO Terrains sneaker may opt to wear them with joggers, track pants, jeans, and trousers and topping them with jackets, track hoodies, and loose-fitting shirts in contrast colors or in monochromatic uppers for that minimalist look.
Female users of the shoe may use the thick soles as some sort of platform sneaker pairing these kicks with skinny ankle-length jeans, shorts, and denim skirts. The chunky soles are perfect for the fall and winter while the jagged teeth in between the sole and midsole are beautiful accents to the subdued styling while still allowing multiple movements and flexibility.
The use of high quality tumbled leather and suede materials in the minimalist Puma x XO terrains sneaker is its main feature. The collaborative sneaker has a chunky midsole with jagged teeth-like serrations in the middle of the exaggerated sole for flexibility while internal comfort is assured by the smooth leather lining. A minimalist placement of the Puma x XO branding details on the tongue, heel, and insoles also complete the softened look.
Puma x XO Terrains History
German brand Puma has recently embarked on collaborations with various celebrities, artists, and brands. One of their regular collaborators is Canadian singer-songwriter The Weeknd. The Puma x XO Collection with the Starboy singer The Weeknd first started in 2017. The Puma x XO was a brand detail that is very recognizable to the singer who also named the collaboration after his own record label XO Records.
The first designs from the partnership were the Puma x XO Parallel. The high-top design featured leather in monochromatic colorways and simple aesthetics. The Puma x XO Parallel is equipped with premium nubuck and leather upper in a high-top profile. The shoe had rubber midsole with Puma’s Ignite foam cushioning technology topped by a blocked heel design for a contemporary street style leather kick.
For Fall/Winter 2018, the Puma x XO partnership went digging into the German brand’s extensive archive for the partnership’s first low-top sneaker release. The shoe is part of the Puma collection called “Homage to Archive,” creative director The Weeknd reimagined the 1990s street style footwear adding modern touches to the design for comfort and styling.
For the collection named “Homage to Archive”, The Weeknd reimagines ’90s street style with modern touches. The first low-top designed by creative collaborator and brand ambassador The Weeknd went on a throwback trip to offer the Puma x XO Terrains.
The shoe had an all-black colorway with the upper in supple tumbled leather and suede overlays. The minimalist look of the shoes is exemplified by the subtle Formstrip on the side and a small XO marking at the back heel. The shoe also has a very chunky midsole that looks like a platform sole with jagged teeth in between the sole and midsole that allowed multiple movements and flexibility. A Puma x XO collaborative branding can also be found at the insole and tongue. The shoe was formally launched and sold at retail on October 18, 2018.
