Puma basketball shoes

The basketball shoe market has long been dominated by Nike (together with its subsidiary Jordan) and Adidas. This, though, did not stop Puma from re-entering the game in 2018 after more or less twenty years of focusing on other areas such as lifestyle sneakers and running shoes.

Puma's re-entry is marked by a fitting nod to its great basketball past. The company released the Clyde Court Disrupt, which of course is the re-imagined and aptly modernized version of Clyde Frazier's Puma classic.

Puma shoes: Great both on and off the court

Puma acknowledges that it's not easy to be a new player in the field. They need to have an impact, and the company starts by having pop culture icon Jay Z as its creative director. Puma then moved to sign rising NBA stars. Demarcus Cousins, DeAndre Ayton, and Danny Green are among the most notable recruits.

Jay Z's presence in the executive team brings a clear message: Puma basketball shoes are going to be more than just hooping tools for those who wear them. "We are committed to being in a space that excites them, from players, music, community, sport, celebrity, and style,” says Puma's marketing VP Allison Giorgio.

This appeal to culture has become even more pronounced in 2020 when another creative, musician, and record producer J. Cole, joined the pack.
