Good to know
Puma x Tyakasha Clyde shoes are offered in men’s sizing which runs from 4 to 14. The sneakers feature a conventional 7-eyelet lacing system with flat laces for securing the shoes to the feet.
The low-top profile of the kicks allow for flexibility in movement and are suited for activities with sudden moves and turns. Additional comfort is found by way of the padded tongues and collars.
Unlike the Puma x Tyakasha Clyde sneakers’ more graphic brother, these kicks keep the design minimalistic and toned down, allowing the beautiful black leather to shine through. The only striking external statements come from the graphics on the tongue and the rubberized pizza keychain that can be attached to the eyelet. More graphics can be found on the insoles.
The Puma Clyde’s distinguishable silhouette is the first thing you’ll notice about these kicks. The collabs must have channeled the legendary basketball player’s early sense of style (he later became so much more colorful) because the shoes come across as elegant with just a bit of a kick courtesy of Tyakasha’s screen-printed food illustrations.
The minimalistic design leaves the user to focus on the beautiful tonal premium leather uppers while the few snack-themed graphics scattered over the shoes serve as a quirky way of breaking up all that black.
The Puma Clyde silhouette first appeared in the 70s courtesy of that basketball icon, Walter “Clyde” Frazier of the NY Knicks. Clyde was a fan of Puma’s Suede shoes, but he wanted something with a little more width to accommodate his feet. Puma obliged, and the Puma Clyde was born.
Puma kept the suede uppers of the Suede model but made it a little wider and lighter. The brand also stamped Walt’s moniker on the side of the shoes in gold.
Clyde shoes were a success on the court, but they are more known for their influence in the breakdancing scene and musical and film culture of the 80s. They were found on the feet of rappers like MC Shan, groups such as the Beastie Boys, and in various movies and films.
Clydes were so popular that Puma made several variations of Clydes throughout the years. One of the latest iterations of the famous silhouette is the collab between Puma and Shanghai-based streetwear brand, Tyakasha.
Puma x Tyakasha Clyde sneakers came out in 2018 in a collection called, Food Life. Two models of the Clyde were included, one with tonal uppers and the other covered in food graphics (Puma x Tyakasha Clyde Graphic). The collection’s supermarket theme played with illustrations of sausages, pizza, ice cream, and other snack menus.
- Puma x Tyakasha Clyde trainers keep the traditional gold Puma Clyde callout on the side of the shoes.
- On the heel of the sneakers where the jumping cat is usually displayed are illustrations of a pizza slice and a bearded gent.
- Puma x Tyakasha Clyde kicks are priced at $120.
