Overview of this review
Size and fit
The Puma Style Rider is available in both men’s and women’s sizing while the color construction is very primary and wearable. This lace-up trainer is a favorite among those with wide-feet as it has ample forefoot space. To those who have narrower feet, it is recommended by many reviewers to go down half a size for a comfortable, snug fit.
For those who prefer a customizable fit, insoles are removable to enable one to replace it with their own orthotics.
Puma Style Rider Style
Available in basic colorways of blue, black, grey, and white permits the wearer to come up with a variety of outfit options.
- To make the colors of blue/black/white stand out, a simple outfit of black joggers and black hoodie will complete the look.
- As the ladies have a wider array of clothing styles, one option is to put on a white cashmere off-shoulder blouse, black skinny leather pants, and a pair of the Puma Style Rider Play On multi-color in purple/blue/pink/green.
In addition to Puma’s running-inspired collection, the Puma Style Rider features a multitude of upper materials of ripstop nylon with suede and leather overlays. Hits of coloring detail are visible on the: (1) lace guard emphasized in zigzag stitching and (2) back of the lace guard that connects to the heel highlighted through a window-like feature.
One glaring feature of the Style Rider is a dual midsole with the upper layer in a wavy pattern. At the heel is the Puma logo debossed on a silver, metallic leather, and below it is a TPU gel insert at the heel for added stability.
Continuing with the ‘80s inspiration for the design is a padded exposed tongue, which was common in running shoes during that era.
Puma Style Rider History
To commemorate 40 years of the Fast Rider, the inspiration for the Style Rider, Puma released a Rider Pack featuring Fast Rider OG, Future Rider, and Style Rider in early 2020.
Launched under Puma’s Futro -- a mish-mash of Future/Retro -- marketing campaign, the Puma Play On pack features more color blocking and a mix of materials to cater to the younger market.
Puma Style Rider maintains the Federbein outsole from the ‘80s inspiration. The inverted V pattern on the outsole provided traction, stability, and grip. It imitates automotive suspension to give a more cushioned road feel.
