Good to know

  • The Merrell Agility Charge Flex bears the Hyperlock technology. This piece of technology is a molded TPU film heel counter, which helps secure the foot in place while the foot is moving on different trail surfaces.
  • On the midsole is the FLEXConnect technology. It was designed to have flex grooves that move in dual direction. These grooves allow the foot and the shoes to move together in unison while on uneven terrain.
  • Inside is the M Select Fresh antimicrobial technology which keeps the in-shoe environment balanced. This trademark technology by Merrell helps with absorbing sweat from the foot and eliminates bad odor.
  • Lastly, the M Select Grip+ is found on the outsole. This Merrell technology gives runners the traction needed to conquer moderate terrain. This technology was inspired by the natural shape of the foot’s skeleton. Underfoot, the lugs on the outsole look like phalanges and metatarsals. These deliver durable grip as well as reliable traction on wet and dry terrain.

The Merrell Agility Charge Flex is available in regular sizes. Runners will be able to purchase the shoes in their usual size preference. In terms of width, the shoes come in the standard B-medium and D-medium measurements.

Although trail runs need shoes with a snug and secure fit, a retailer suggests that runners get a pair of these shoes in their usual size preference. The spreading and tightening of the feet while moving on uneven terrain was taken into account in the shoe’s design so there should be a small amount of wiggle room in the toe box to cater for this flexion-extension movement of the foot.

On the outsole is Merrell’s M Select Grip which is a durable rubble that’s wear and tear resistant. Aside from its durability, it grips on wet and dry ground, over any terrain. This is thanks to the lugs that are skeleton-like. The shape, placement and angular design of these lugs make it easier for the shoes to cut through terrain as well as self-clean, releasing tiny debris and dirt.

The midsole is made up of EVA foam. This dense foam material is excellent for comfort, durability and shock absorption. Having this material in the midsole of the Merrell Agility Charge Flex allows runners to have a comfortable ride while still having a good amount of cushioning and protection underfoot.

The EVA foam midsole was designed with dual-directional flex grooves to enable the shoe to move together with the feet with minimal restrictions. Not only do these flex grooves aid in flexibility, but they also help with balance to some degree. When the foot is on uneven terrain, the grooves compress to help even out the level of the shoes.

Merrell added their trademark M Select fresh technology to the removable EVA foot-bed. This technology naturally keeps odors at bay with reactive microbes that breakdown sweat with natural enzymes. The technology absorbs the sweat and eliminates microbes thereby maintaining a healthy environment within the shoe.

The upper of the Merrell Agility Charge Flex is made up of fabric mesh. This material allows the foot to breath, letting air circulate within the shoe. It also helps protect the shoe from mud as well as slightly improve its durability.

A Hyperlock TPU film reinforces the strength of the heel counter to keep the heel in place while the foot is moving through uneven surfaces. Also known as Thermoplastic Polyurethane (TPU), this material is a hybrid which is a combination of plastic and soft silicone. It is extremely durable and won’t break or fall off when the foot is moving in an agile manner on moderate terrain.
