Size and fit

Adidas Superstar Cleats' sizing is a bit long, so buyers are advised to size down by at least half, although the width is spot on.

The mid-cut construction gives the ankles additional support. The sneakers have a lace-up front with extra long laces to wrap around the shoes.

Adidas Superstar Boots Style

Adidas reimagined the classic b-ball trainer as a winter-ready combat cleat with a herringbone pattern tread for grip. The resulting design is part retro and many parts street. Adidas Superstar Cleats come in black and white, ash-pearl, all-black, all-white, and cardboard and white colorways. The rich tones are beautiful and when combined with the leather uppers, quite striking.

You can wear these shoes and still look quite feminine. Pair with an asymmetrical skirt, a fitted top, and top off with a leather jacket for an edgy, chic look. Or you can replace the skirt with warm leggings, and change the fitted top to a long shirt. Don’t remove the leather jacket.

For a more casual ensemble, wear these cleats with blue jeans and a colorful knitted sweater.

Notable Features

No tech features for these shoes, but who needs them when you’re already assured of comfort and tons of style? The combat cleat take on the Superstar model looks edgy chic, but the full-grain leather uppers elevate the shoes into something more by bestowing a certain expensive aura (though they’re far from being pricey) and elegant vibe.

Adidas Superstar Boots History

The Superstars started life in 1969 as basketball trainers. They were initially released as low-top versions of the Adidas brand’s Pro Model shoes, but they achieved such popularity that they quickly surpassed the latter.

One fan of the shell-toe design and leather uppers is legendary basketball player, Kareem Abdul Jabbar. The top NBA scorer never wore anything but Superstars on the court. And because of his charismatic and dominant personality, fans of the game and of Kareem became fans of the shoes too.

Pretty soon, the sneakers made their transition from on the court to off it. Hip-hop group Run D.M.C. took them up next and made the Superstars into their signature footwear. It became customary to see them wear their Superstar sneakers with the tongues pushed out and laces untied. They even wrote a song about the shoes called “My Adidas.

The rise of hip-hop and the push made by Run D.M.C. turned Adidas Superstars into casual kicks rather than athletic footwear. The shoes’ ability to adapt to different cultures and their undiminishing stature in the sneaker world for generations have also made them into legit classics.

While the Superstar silhouette remains in production today, it has undergone various Superstar reimaginings throughout the years leading to the production of dozens of iterations such as the Superstar Foundations, Superstar 2s, and lately, Superstar Cleats.
