Fit & Sizing

The Air Jordan 1 High Zip debuted in women’s exclusive sizes that ranged from 5 to 18. Months after, the brand released it in men’s sizes as well, running from size 7 to 14. With its all-new zip-up closure users reported that it felt bigger than normal and recommended going half a size down.

This kick, just like the OG version, incorporates the Air technology in its heel so expect the same comfort in every stride.

Air Jordan 1 High Zip Style

Crafted from premium leather or a combination of leather and textile, the Air Jordan 1 High Zip exudes a balance between luxury and athleticism. Its zip-up closure and less branding provide a simpler and more minimal design than the traditional Air Jordan 1 models.

Note that there are a couple of slight differences between the men and women’s versions. The men’s edition features a large perforated Swoosh logo on the sides, while the women’s are plain.

  Men’s styling tips

Pair these sneakers with a monochromatic outfit to let the shoes do the talking. Leave the zipper open and straighten the ‘tongue’ for a more unorthodox ensemble. Opt for the standard casual staples like jeans, leggings, shorts, and joggers for an effortlessly cool look for a casual day out.

  Women’s styling tips

The ladies could easily pop on a shirtdress for a sporty look with a feminine touch. Or opt for a more contemporary ensemble by reaching for a midi skirt and a long sleeve top with geometric accents. Going for sweatpants and sweatshirt combo is a no-brainer for when the weather is starting to get cold. Lastly, for a stylish yet understated look you could go for a pair of high-waisted jeans, a cropped vintage tee, accessorized with dainty necklaces, hoop earrings, and a bag to house all the stuff you need to bring.

Notable Features

A new approach to the iconic model, the Air Jordan 1 High Zip displays a more minimal upper thanks to a couple of alterations. It lost its traditional lace-up closure in place of a sleek and stylish zipper bathed in tonal colors providing a more streamlined design created especially for the ladies. Despite its fresh, new look most Jordan Brand enthusiasts love how recognizable this kick's design is and how it retained the well-loved Air Sole unit.

Air Jordan 1 High Zip History

Fresh out of high school, Michael Jordan was fortunate enough to be offered a deal with the sportswear giant Nike. But it wasn't easy work for the brand because Jordan was not convinced with Nike's offer at first. Once the contract was settled, everything took off. In 1985, Nike revealed their first shoe with MJ called the Air Jordan 1. And to make things better, MJ was announced as the rookie of the year, which greatly helped with the shoe's popularity.

The Air Jordan 1 was the first multi-colored shoe to grace the hardwood floors of the NBA. With a strict dress code in the NBA during that time, MJ was reprimanded by David Stern and the Air Jordan 1 was banned. MJ was asked to pay fees every time he stepped on the court with the pair on. The rebellious nature of MJ and Nike's choices served as a great marketing strategy and catapulted the kick to legend status.

Since then, the Air Jordan 1 has been reinterpreted in countless ways and became a "Holy Grail" to every sneakerhead. Fast-forward to 2018 the female clientele was significantly increasing. Hence the Jordan Brand released a women's collection for Spring of 2018. And although it is not the first woman-based collection ever released, the ladies were ecstatic because the classic shoes displayed a completely different look.

The collection included three pairs that are specifically designed for the woman's taste. One of them is the Air Jordan 1 High Zip casual shoes originally introduced exclusively in women's sizes. It retained the original's silhouette and technology but now comes crafted with premium leather or suede and a zip-up closure. Due to public demand, the brand released the Air Jordan 1 High Zip in men's sizes too.

  Colorways

The kick is available in a number of colorways so start deliberating on which color fits you most or better yet buy them all. Here are some of the hues you can choose from: Black / University Red / Sail, Blackened Blue / White / Neptune Green, Black / Sail / Hyper Royal / White, Olive / Black / Beach / Volt Glow, White / Sail / University Red / Black, Particle Beige, Bordeaux, and Mica Green.

  Collaborative iteration

In the same year, the Jordan Brand went into collaboration with their first ever woman partner – Vogue and their editor-in-chief Anna Wintour. The teamwork introduced the Air Jordan 1 High Zip in two colorways: University Red and Sail. Its uppers are crafted from premium leather materials and feature Nike Air tags with "Edited by Vogue" written and outsoles displaying the AWOK signature which stands for "Anna Wintour Okay."  The box comes with two premium suede dust bags and an "Edited by Vogue" keychain.
